Beaverdam tipups
« on: Jan 25, 2011, 06:25 PM »
I was given a few of these and are in need of a tune up. I have located the site to do that. I have a question, the reels look like they have old grease on them. Are these reels protected with a paint or varnish??

The manufacturer has to heat the solder to remove the spool and this burns off the paint. After greasing the shaft tube the spool has to be soldered back on the shaft. A light coat of gold paint is applied and your tip-up is like brand new. I have been doing this for a number of years and I have some BD tip-ups that are 30 years old that work like new.

Thanks for the info I did see a film on you tube on how to do that but you would think there would be a nut on the reel so they would be able to be serviced by everyone. I am sure I can do it but not everyone has a shop in there house
