Show your wife this

Show this to your wife and she will probably never complain about what you spend on fishing again.

I was out on a high mountain lake in Colorado a few weeks ago (Lake John) and a guy dragged one out there with his ATV that looked just like these.  Retracted up his wheels and went inside.  Pretty amazing.  Glad to see this to fully explain what I saw at John.

They are nice...but her statement on the second house shown bothers me a bit. "At 5500 lbs, the house is light enough to be towed out onto EARLY Winter ice"....uh, you go first... :P

I showed it to my wife. She said that is just stupid. Asked me why anyone would spend that kind of money on a shack? I told her because they had the money to waste on whatever they wanted to waste it on.
How many Crappie would you have to catch to pay off a $55,000.00 Ice house? And what if you parked in in a dead zone? Those people are insane!

this article only talked about the high end houses. you can get a smaller version of these that may sleep a few less people but they start at around $13000. the one I was thinking of getting in the next year or two would be in the 15,000 to 16,000 range. they finance them as RV's and most loans can go out 7 to 10 years. if I do end up getting one I will be for sure adding a air conditioner to it so it can double as a camper in the summer time. this is the only way I could justify the cost of it.  If  it was just for ice fishing I would just buy a larger full thermal flip over and a new Arctic Cat Bear cat snowmobile instead and have money left over.

They are now classified as an RV if they have plumbing, and also may qualify as a second home, like a cabin or regular 5th wheel or RV.  You can get long term financing, tax deductions and use it year round. I was on Devils Lake a week ago and every 5th hard side out there were these type of houses...maybe some of the smaller more affordable ones were more common, but there were giants too...If you ice fish, and are in the market for a camper, motorhome, RV, why wouldn't you consider one of these?
If I\'m not fishing, I\'m probably thinking about fishing...And if I\'m thinking about fishing, I\'m probably not getting much else done so, I might as well go fishing...Yeah, I just said that!

Ya know, I am retired and on a fixed income so I surely can't afford anything like this to persue my favorite winter time sport, even if I could it would'nt be feasible in our part of the country because of the varing ice conditions. First lots of snow then maybe a shot of sub zero temps, then a thawing & more snow which adds up to my major nemeses, slush! I for one would hate to get one of those things stuck out on a lake with only a 4-wheeler to try to pull it out. Another thing we Hadley ever get any more that 10-12 of ice at any time here, compared to where I grew up, Northern Mn. So, I will stick to my Clam 2-man portable & Buddy heater!
