Awesome gills! 10" fish can quickly be depleted tho'. Enjoy 'em while they last!

Very nice fish; ditto what Townie said. Ten in. gills are a valuable resource, indeed.

I agree! Our local lake had them also, everyone got buckets of them. Now all you get are 3-6" dinks. Be carefull on how many get harvested or they will quickly be gone.Still you got to keep a few...

Thanks for the comments guys. The gills are from a private pond of about 25 acres. Two thirds of it is standing timber, real thick stuff, in depths up to 20 feet. When you put the camera down, you see big gills quite frequently. All year classes are represented and the pond has been healthy for years, with several big fish taken each year. I just posted a couple pictures from this weekend of my son and a couple he caught. It is in the picture section under the "post a picture of your kids fishing" portion.

You have quite the spot there! I lost every 10" gill I encountered this season :(
I find the bulls to be very wary fish-- what baits were they hittin'?

Do gills take a long time to get that size??
-
up in northern ny they do. a 10 inch gill is a trophy for alot of fishers on here.
-
the 5 gills that were showed were all males which is better then keeping the females ladden with eggs.
