With the kids being out of school it was all the motivation I needed to make the 1st ice trip for the year yesterday. I had from a very good source that one of my favorite spots by my moms was locked up and fishable. So me and my youngest stepson packed the car and headed out at 4:30am for the 2.5hr drive to the lake. We made it just after 1st light and the ice was looking a bit thin but after a few cracks with the spud it was a very solid 3.5in. I was the 1st to hook up with a couple of fatties
this one was the biggest for the day at 21in and it came on the new 13fishing wicked ice combo
the boy got in on a few to when he sat still long enough to see them nibbling
even managed a few on the pk flutter fish
We ended up with about 15 on the ice, all but 2 returned to fight another day and missed just as many. Hate the hit and run. I hope this ice holds out as it was pretty warm when we left and it was getting a little soft on the edges. There was a little water on top of the ice too do to the very hot sun shining most of the day. Temps for the next 3 days are pretty warm for lava should be a little cooler at the lake, but after the next storm its going to get arctic again
