Power Augers on Small Bodies of Water
« on: Feb 01, 2014, 07:24 AM »
I believe that some small bodies of water have restrictions on the use of power augers.  For example, I heard from a local fisherman here in Monroe County that a local noise ordinance prohibits the use of power augers on Cranberry Pond (the one in Greece) prior to  8:00 AM.  How do you find out those sort of rules for specific bodies of water?

I am interested in finding out if any such restrictions exist for Loon Lake in a Wayland and Mendon Ponds.

Thanks.

The only way to be safe is to call your local DEC officer.

Make sure that there are no snow blowers or lawn mowers running of garden tractors or what ever you can think of.  Oh ya  chainsaws also.

If you know even a little bit about ice fishing you can't go to eel bay without catching some pike
The fishing is always good and sometimes the catching is good too

The only way to be safe is to call your local DEC officer.

And if you don't like the answer you get from the first guy call again and talk to someone else... Odds are you will get conflicting stories.

I had a woman call the police as I was drilling holes on Conesus lake. It was about 7:00AM she came right out to the edge of her break wall and unleashed a horrific rant of reasons as to why I was, well a bad person. She told me to go fish on the other side and she would not call the police, I asked her if it was legal on that side to drill holes? When her neighbor opened his door and told her he was sick of hearing her yelling and waking him up she left in a huff. People are odd, moved in next to an airport and now I hear are all these damn planes, who knew.

I had something like that happen to us on Keuka Lake fishing in the summer.  It was 7:00 at night, and we were fishing from boat with kids, and this lady comes out and asks us to get away from her dock (we weren't even that close, we could barely hit it with a long cast).  Apparently, she thought that she not only owned the land, but the water too.  It wasn't like we were a bunch of drunk rowdies out there, we had young kids with us.  Some people...

I also love the people who live on Golf Courses who yell at you for hitting balls in their yard.  If you but a house on a golf course, what did you expect?
