Title: Mississippi backwaters still safe ice after rain?
Post by: walnutz on Jan 25, 2018, 09:07 AM
Was looking to go up to gremore or anywhere around there not sure how the ice looks after all the rain though. Any input on safe backwaters to fish this weekend is greatly appreciated 1.5hr drive for me.
Thank you in advance!

Friend of mine went to desoto north of prairie 15 miles or so. Open water for 5’ around shoreline. Once he got out there said there was 18” of ice. We’re headed back there Sunday.

Fished Gremore on Friday, it was terrible didn't get anything when we marked fish they wouldn't bite on anything and we tried all kinds of different things and moved ALL over the place. Everyone else we talked to had the same situation, disappointing day.

That doesn’t sound good. Might get over there this week and try it out. Did you pay the price and go under the road/tracks?

My uncle went through at Bussey on Friday near the edge.  Luckily was wearing a life vest and someone saw him go through and called for help.  Mild case of hypothermia and a bruised ego, but otherwise he's okay.  Be careful out there!!
