Interesting - I wouldn't be caught eating them.  But maybe fun to catch.

Wasn't there a big project to dig out Wascana in the past?

Good to hear that fish life is retuning to Wascana Lake. ;D
I feel if the perch made there way to Wascana some pike did also. The additional pike should improve the area some.
If the pike do become established I will defiantly do some shore fishing at Wascana when ever I am in the city. :)

"The big dig" took place during the winter of 2004, it was an $18 million dollar project to deepen Wascana Lake, they deepend the lake to 16.5 feet.

For more info on "the big dig" and all it's additions to the lake check out this website:

That is absolutely great news.  Listen!  Prince Albert has great shore river fishing and so does Saskatoon.  Regina now wants to join the club.  I remember when Wascana was nothing but a big slough.  I am sure that is what the politicians will do during their dinner break, a shore lunch on Wascana.

Boy, that's great to have an urban fishing resource!  Close to home, and tasty little guys to boot.  - - - Actually, if the lake was deepened, then the excavators stripped out any sediment that may have been toxic, and there shouldn't be any problems with eating them.  Perch are my #1 favorite fish to catch (and eat).

Ya - Perch are my favorite too.  I live in Regina and I think I may try the fishing on Wascana some day.  However, one of my favorite parts about fishing is just getting out of the city.
