Mice out of Shanty
« on: Feb 14, 2011, 09:36 AM »
Went fishing in Michigan yesterday, but it was kinda tough as i was standing in about 2 inches of water!   My thermal tip up was floating!

Anyway - with the big warm up coming - not sure how much time we have left!
So I need to start thinking about putting the gear up soon!

When I was searching Craiglist for a shanty - many of the posts said "small hole from mice in fabric"

Seems like I read somewhere on how to prevent this!  I have a Clam Yukon Flip - can I put something in the sled in the summer months to keep mice away?

Thks

Use dryer sheets. more is better. Many buddies use these in their campers and duck boats to keep the critters from chewing on everthing. Stuff them in the corners and everywhere else they might nibble.

Just try your local Animal shelter. They should have them by the thimble full...

Never tried dryer sheets...but tried monthballs in my ATV under the seat didnt work .  After pulling out a nest and loading the compartment w/ monthballs....went back two weeks later brand new nest right in with the mothballs.   I will have to try dryer sheets though

I keep my portables in my wheel house now, but I used to remove the fabric from the frame and store it in a tote. and never had a mouse problem.

Dryer sheets. I used them on my sleds when I had them. Don't know why but everytime I put one in my can, airbox, seats etc. I never had any mice problems so I will use them this year on my frabill.

Bounce fabric softener  sheets work....others not quite as well.
There's something in Bounce sheets that others don't have.

The dryer sheets don't always work, but it does deters the mice from moving in.  If the mothballs fails, then I'm pretty sure the dryer sheets will fail too.  Some mice will move in no matter.  If you can keep it off the ground, it sure helps.

I keep my portable set up in the attic. That way if they want to go in, they can just walk in and not chew their way in. Oh, don't forget to leave a door open.

My grandmother used mothballs to protect our summer home for more than 25 years....and we never had a mouse problem..... despite the fact that the house was completely empty from October thru June every year.  She put those mothballs EVERYWHERE in the house (closets, drawers, cabinets, on top of all furniture, etc.).  I would say they work !!!

Here's what works for me, keeps everything in one place and I can load it into or out my truck bed in minutes. It's a Team Wild 2 man and a Killzone 4 man pop up.

It's a Racor Heavy Lift(sp?).

Adam,
You must be an old fart.

They haven't made 'our' MAG 3's for a long time!

Too bad they (made in USA) went under. Rock solid product.  :(

I'm a Animal Damage Control Operator in Grand Rapids Michigan, My company Business name is:

Stan's Predator and Varmint Control.

Keep Mice out.

Either use Dryer Sheets, or

Take a Sponge, Put some Peppermint Oil on the sponge...Place it where you don't want mice, and wha...Laa...No more mice. You can also put this in homes, with a nice scent of Peppermint.

Mice HATE Peppermint.

Stan
