solo trip
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 08:51 PM »
went on a solo trip today, first one ever. the ice was 8"-12" thick, and there was a steady perch bite. they were just finicky enough to not quite take the hook, i only actually landed 2 small ones about 7". at about 4:30 it started to get colder and the bite shut down almost immediately.
how many of you guys go on solo trips?

Never, not fun to fish by myself. I will go with a buddy and split up on the lake to find fish, but we always call each other when we find em so we can fish together.

I almost always run by myself, may run into some nice fellows on the ice to chat with but I go 98% of the time by myself.

Most of the time I start out alone but there are always a few others out on the ice. Some I know other I will introduce myself to and at least they will know my name if I come up missing.
Take a kid fishing, they make great pack mules.
Put the big ones back for another day eat the small ones.

I run solo most of the time.
I also rarely run into other fishermen out there as well.   ;D

I usually fish solo during the week because I have different work hours than my fishing buddies. During the weekend, we hook up to cover the lake. I try to fish every day I can on the ice because I do not yet own a boat!

I love fishing alone and I love the peace and quiet. I go out with friends once in a while but I like to do my own thing. My little boy will be 3 this September and then it will be just him and I...until my little girl is old enough...then the peace and quiet will be gone forever, but it sure will be fun.

Will fish no matter if its with somebody or by myself.  Have had some of the best fishing alone.  Probably because you are the only one with jigs in the water at the time.

i always fish alone,
thats when i catch the biggest fish :)
if there are others on the ice i may venture further from shore,
if no one else is on the ice, i try to play it somewhat safe and find a spot closer to shoreline,

i use too but not as much anymore...i do alot of solo trips on my boat, but for ice fishing i like a crew
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

I won't fish unless I'm with somebody or by myself!
Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day, give him a religion and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish... author unknown

I go by myself quite frequently, wether it is winter or summer.  I have a hard time finding someone to go with my work schedule.

last year was the first time i went solo and i went three times.  my wife doesnt like it when i go alone, but whenever i have gone there was more fisherman around and another time there was tweny inches of ice but i do understand her concern.  but almost everytime i will go with another buddy usually the same guy and he is a lot of fun.  but i dont mind it alone and will probably do it again this year.

Solo or with my 87yr old dad with few exceptions. I'm footloose and like doing what I want when I want without a debate is the main reason. Living in a NJ blue district I learned to say where and when to meet me on the ice so I don't have to wait around or babysit them or pack them lunch. Not that they show up anyway.

Usually alone, I enjoy the peace and quiet, and relaxing.. I am also not a big drinker, and it seems that when you take others, more time is spent drinking than jigging!  haha
