Days are numbered
« on: Feb 10, 2018, 05:07 AM »
I've stayed pretty positive until now but I think the combination of snow and the warm weather predicted in the extended forcast is going to bring an end to the ice in the next week or so.

I can't imagine getting new ice if this junk we have now melts.  Get it while you can and be safe doing it!

I foresee an end too. We got a good melt of the snow around fort wayne and maybe will tighten up with low temps Sunday night but for how long. I'm gonna try and get out every day I can next week and then getting the long rods and waders ready. Gonna work on my boat motor and build my standing platform for fly fishing for my boat.

The 5" of ice I drilled this morning in Whitley county was soft ice for sure.  I don't think it will survive too many more warm ups

The Sea had good ice this morning. They were running sleds and atvs all over. To bad the fish didn't bite. Hex

2 days near 40 with only one night above freezing in the next week is not going to hurt the ice I have been on last weekend.  I might condense some of the snow, but with lows near 20 or in the teens we won't lose much ice.  Every lake is different and the lakes I am talking about have 8+ inches last weekend and have heard up to 10" now.  It has a lot of snow now after the storm yesterday and that never helps, so we shall see.

Most of the stuff I've been on is 6" at the thickest and full of air bubbles and cracks.  Now it has a bunch of wet snow on it.  Lake I was on tonight was soft enough the snowmobiles had pushed the 8-10" of snow down into the water.

Just looked at local forecast and calling for nearly 1.5" of rain and upper 50s Thursday...so unfortunately that's it for us around here.  Was hoping for 1 more weekend before calling it quits but guess mother nature has other plans.
