well, she pretty much opened up
« on: Jan 31, 2018, 02:11 PM »
What was holding 1.5 inches of ice has pretty much been swallowed up by white caps today from the open spot in the center of the lake. The lake is now about 80% ice free. Thanks wind!

Yeah it's been interesting to watch the pons and small lakes along the highway today as I did my rounds seeing the difference each round how much it opened with the wind today

I agree I personally think it's best to get rid of all the sketchy junk ice and start from scratch just my two cents

Why does everybody know what lake this is except me? What am I missing?

Yep never tell a taxidermist where you caught that fish!

Most people lie anyway. As if it's just as matter of going to the same lake to catch that 8 pound bass or 18 inch crappie!

Dear Lord!
I thought it was common knowledge. I mean I pretty much only fish one body of water through the week and then go North on weekends. It's been the same pattern for over 10 years now. No secret, not trying to be vague or misleading. I just figured the association to Prairie Creek Reservoir in Selma indiana, (South East of Muncie Indiana, North East of New Castle indiana right off of SR 35) was a given. LMAO

That really doesn't narrow it down enough!!  Great fishery, glad it's in your back yard and loaded with gold.  Got a buddy that loves bringing some of it back north when the water is soft.  Going to have to make it down with him this year.  I've only been on PC once on the ice on the way to or from Summit.  Caught some crappie.  Too bad we all don't get more ice and time on it!

I do have a question about PC. Why is there a good population of eyes in it. Is it stock regularly or just natural reproduction.

Not an expert Bigr and I'm sure Jigmup will be much better informed to answer your question.  Based on the reading I've done I've gathered this.

The resevioir supplies water to Muncie, not an INDNR property managed for fishing.  Large amount of carp and shad in the resevioir that can't be killed due to the water supply issue.  One thing that helps control the trash fish is dumping toothy critters in there.  As a result of the carp population, gills and bass spawn rates are not good.  Doesn't effect the walleye or crappie, not sure about the perch.

Walleye's are stocked. Pretty much all put and take. Shad are rampant. Carp numbers are down from years past...way down. Bass numbers are good and some large smallmouth are present as well as many big largemouth. White Crappie are present in high numbers and many fall in the category of what I would consider big. With that said, it can be one of the toughest lakes to figure out through the ice if not the toughest!

I'm planning on trying this spring. Probable best way for me to put a ice fishing plan together for next season.

Jimup I have a question for you. What time of year during open water at PC would you say presents the closest similar locations and conditions as hard water? Am I wasting my time during soft water thinking I have a plan for hard water locations? Your answer might cause more brain picking from me.

Great now the yellow bass honey hole is now blasted to the internet...lol jking.

I'm far from an expert but I can say open water has not translated to hard water on this lake for me.
