I saw a vehicle at the whitefish hole a few days ago but where I was East of the sand point lighthouse there was about 7-8". Fished off the Mission today and had about 7" there.  Saw fishermen up North of Carla's on 4 wheelers.  Can't go too much farther North from there; just new skim ice and patches of open water.  A few more quiet cold nights is all it needs now.

Does anyone have a report on the ice from Carla"s to Pequaming after that NE wind we had?  Or any other bay ice reports would be good too.  Thanks.

Looking to make a trip somewhere for trout in a couple weekends as fishing down here in the LP might be over after this rain and warm weather.  Would also appreciate an ice report if anyone has one.  How much snow on the ice?

Fishfreak, We go out about 2/3 of a mile to about 250' deep water.
Pyro: There was virtually no snow last weekend but if they got the snow down there that we did there might me a few inches.

Fished at squaw bay this morning, and only caught some smelt. Fished 130ft of water and marked a few fish.

There was a fisherman in a teepee style shack right off the beach maybe 20-30 yards. He used a 10” auger and cut a large hole for sight Fishing. As we walked off by where his shack was we noticed he did nothing to mark the hole. This is the 2nd time I’ve come across this out there and hope these individuals just don’t know they need to be marking these so no one gets hurt. A kid could fall through or someone could hurt could break their leg if they dont see it. Plus anything over 10” in MI needs to be marked by law I believe. Guys were all out there to have a good time and enjoy the ice. So let’s do everything we can to make sure we all get back to shore safely.

Did anyone have a decent day today?  Fine weather but only 4 lakers between 4 people in an area we've been doing good in.  Moved a couple of times but couldn't get a decent fish.  Maybe the East wind just shut them down.  There is supposed to be a strong East wind with this storm; hope the shoreline doesn't get broken up on the West side.

I was out for a few hours, didn't mark anything.  Saw small whiteys on my camera in front of the Falls.  A friend closer to the mouth got 2 hos.

Slow for us today too. 3 lakers, only 2 were legal size. I was getting a fair number of hits but was not able to hook them. We only had a couple of flags on the tip ups though.

Hoping someone could give an ice condition report this week. Was wondering if the snow and wind did anything.  Planning to come up This weekend if the ice is still fine. Long drive to find out it's not though.

Thanks

High of 40s and sunny today and tomorrow. Hard to say what the ice will do, depends on the wind. You should be fine though

Asking mostly about deep water. Last I knew there was only ~8" out that far?

We had a lot more ice this past weekend off of Whirl-I-Gig. As long as the wind didn't di anything to it you should be good. By the way, I'm UP Hunter in the Michigan Sportsman forum.

Cool thanks.  Snow should be all gone by the weekend with the warm daytime temps I'm assuming?

8 hour drive just trying to get all the info I can

Snow should be gone by April, or possibly May.

We got a LOT of snow out there late last week. We were still able to 4 wheeler, (4 wheel drive), out there Saturday but walking was tough. We got a lot more snow on Sunday but I don't know what the wind did. It was mostly from the south so there is a great chance the ice was blown clear. I've been waiting to see a MODIS image of the bay but there weren't any posted for Lake Superior yesterday for some reason. Anybody else been on K Bay since Saturday?

You can always call Indian Country Sports right at the mouth of the Falls River in Lanse. They will give you up to date weather and conditions out there. We were out till about 2am on Sat and we’re getting around just fine on a SxS.

The ice was fine yesterday with 4" of snow on top.  A little slush near old cracks.  By the end of the day the warm temps had it settling and a little easier to walk in.  A couple more warm days and cold nights should have it hard crusted and easier walking.

Still 18-20" of ice. I finally caught some Co-ho and neighbor Bruce got a nice Splake.
Thanks to the 3 amigos who drilled some holes and gave us some tips!
