Hi guys,
OK! Here's what I use for chumming.
Go to your local kitchen supply store and get a stainless steel Tea Ball. (Biggest you can find-mine is 3 inches)
It has a hinge at the bottom with a squeez latch on the top.
Drill a small hole in the latch lip.
Run a small ball bearing swivel with snap hook thru the hole.
Tie on a long strong nylon string to the swivel. Or attach a baby gang troll with small colorado blades.
Add a rock or sinker (as a weight) inside the tea ball with your favorite chum. (Bring extra rocks)!
Bend and adjust latch so that it holds the ball closed with rock and chum inside.
Send ball down a seperate ice hole 5 ft. away from the hole your fishing.
Now jig the ball up and down "slooowly" to let chum bleed thru the tea ball screen and let the baby gang troll spin and flash as an attractor.
Now if and when you want, give a stong jerk on the rig (at what ever depth you want), you'll pull the latch open and the chum will spill out at that depth and then sink downward.
Made this rig last season and it worked really well!!!
Fact is I was catching fish while other near me didn't.
Best regards,
SeaDog1

All these chum-devices are high-tec...

I bring along my laker jigging rod rigged with 20lb braid, a rock, and a lightweight paper bag - like a liquor store bag.  Insert chum of choice in bag, add rock, tie bag onto braid, drop bag in hole.

Find bottom, pull bag up about 20 feet by hand, drop half the line out then as it comes tight, yank HARD and break bag. Make sure rock is about the diameter of the bag, and ON TOP of the chum.

Works for me.  And I generally save salmon roe through the late summer for this and fish with cured eggs in skein.  Add all kinds of anything else that you wish, I have used a lot of the chum items listed above, but the roe seems to provide best results for me.
Rule #1:  Never tell your story first.
