Title: HB 5662 Helmet Requirement Reduced

"Eliminate the requirement to wear a helmet and protective eyewear while operating an off-road vehicle for towing a fishing shanty on or off the ice" Sponsor: Rep. Curtis VanderWall, R-Ludington.

Do I read it correctly that this bill was signed into law 6/19/18? Effective 9/18/18?

Looks like you don't need a helmet if you are travelling under 10mph while ice fishing, but still need one if you are going faster than that...

Looks like you read it correctly. I couldn't be more pleased,  moving to Michigan and just bought an atv for ice fishing.

Now, that is outstanding and makes me almost believe we have some common sense back in the Government.

Always went that slow anyway and never had mine buckled in case I went thru....rip it off quick.  This Bill is written for ORV's only....a snowmobile is NOT a ORV by Michigan definition. (See page 6 of the MI ORV handbook)

Interesting, most of the guys I know or meet out on the ice have following this rule change years before it was even introduced, lol.
