Warm Weather and Ice Houses
« on: Jan 12, 2010, 11:27 AM »
I have a 4X8 wooded ice shack on aluminum runners.  This is my second year ice fishing.  I have it on a farm pond and with the weather thawing and freezing the next week or so will it be OK or should I try to pull it off?  Any advice?

I wouldnt think it would be much of a problem. If anything I would break it looseand let it refreeze in the evening.

We are supposed to get rain all week.  Should I pull my shack?

If you are worried about it pull it,  It dont take much to put it back out.It a lot harder getting it off the bottom of the lake.  The problem I see is that the runners could sink down in the slush stuff and the refreeze.  Then if you have to pull it off it would be stuck.  Just my two cents worth.  I dont have a perm.

If no-one is in it, move it off the lake till things tighten up again. It will be less work in the long run. If you leave it on the lake with 4 inches of water and it freezes in, how much work would it take to get it out? Plus the way the weather is lately, it will be 70 degrees before we know it. :'(

Thanks guys.  Shane I love the ice fishing serenity prayer.  That is awesome.  I think I will go pull it to shore after work.  I am busy all week anyway and can get the portable out this weekend.

Well we got the three shacks off the pond tonight.  WOW.  Chains and 4 wheel drives.  I'll sleep better tonight.

Sweet,  If it was that hard now add another few inches of slush or water.  Good Move. ;D

The ice was good it was just trying to get them through the drifts at shore.  Your right though I wouldn't have wanted to do it in the slush.  We can always push them back on.
