Valparaiso chain of lakes
« on: Feb 02, 2018, 08:46 AM »
Anyone been out to check any of the lakes in Valpo?  They look all covered from a distance but have not seen anyone out.  I check on Tuesday and took two steps on and didn't feel very comfortable yet.  Wondering if anyone has checked or been out the last day or so.  Cold as hell out there today and last night.

Did the loop tonight after work and saw one guy on the southwest corner of Flint off the boat ramp fishing basically out in the open.  Seemed pretty chilly to me out there...  Drove and saw NO ONE on Long or on Loomis.  Really surprised me that no one was out. May have to do some spudding tomorrow...

Just out on Loomis found 4.5 to 5ins of ice. In front bay and about 300 yards off beach. Be careful and spud spud spud.

Public but hard to find parking.  Public ramp on South East side of lake.   But issues with parking.   Hope this helped.   If u need more info feel free to pm me.

No one on Flint at all Sunday.  Shore is 2 inches at best by launch and I have to guess only getting worse with this snow off of the launch.  Haven't seen anyone on long either.

Was hoping to get out for a little today since we didn't get as much snow as expected.  Started at Flint and it looks dangerous there are spots where you can see the snow just killed the ice and looks like standing water and actually almost looks like a hole in the ice in certain spots.  Once I saw this I got off, then went to Long and no one out there but looked the same!  Its a shame we had some good cold weather but this snow has messed it up it seems.  Anyone else find anywhere local

I am just down the road from Loomis and my pond has a lot of water/slush on top. It grew yesterday as the snow fell. There are several muskrat holes and the weight of the snow is literally pushing water up through those holes. Very sketchy. Manny

Checked ice yesterday took 4-5 have of the Spud to break through in most areas.   But still be careful some honeycomb ice in areas.   It's 6-8 in of honeycomb in spots with 2-3 in of good ice as well.  But be careful everyone lots of snow n slush.  Goin to try my luck today.

There out of season now , but being it's you property and there are causing damage . Could be different story . Should look into it and see what you can do. If you are allowed to get rid of them I can give you some tips

Lots of slush n water on top n some soft spots but definitely some good ice in areas.  Didn't catch much on long today.  Just 3 toss backs 😢 looks like the end of the season
