not 100 % sure but I think I would start a little more shallow and work your way deeper as the day progresses.

That is if you get set up close to sunrise.

Yes, I've caught Crappie before sunup many times in the exact same place you would find them at night.
You may call me crazy, but crazy catches fish!

Set up in a Area where either you found Crappies, or see other shantys around, or lots of holes in a Given Area.

Then..

Take a 5" Auger clean out all ice shavings, and take a 6-8" Lantern w/a 6 Volt Battery, turn it on and point it into the hole..The Light will attract Minnows, and Crappie..

I've done it and works great..

Did very well ....brought home 24 all over 10" threw back about 13 smaller ones. It was almost like they were picking up the bait and swimming up...I got slack in the line and set the hook.....could not detect no bites even with a spring bobber.

Fishinainteasy, you had the up bite, those crappie inhaled your bait swam up.Very commen bite with crappie. When fishing with spring bobber there,s usalley a very slight bump followed by the spring going slack, like you have no weight of lure or slack line. Love that bite can .

i rarely use minnows while fishing for crappies. (just cause.i dont know why.lol) and that up bite is mainly what i get..its awsome..to just be jigging..then all of a sudden..something doesnt feel right.. a quick upwards twitch and wallah..fish on..its awsome.
