I went to the local ski shop and explained what I needed. They sold me some expensive worthless crap that never made a bit of difference. Remember that you will be sliding into and out of the truck, over parking lots or across roads and rocky shorelines. You'll be sliding across bare ice, wet slush, dry snow, packed drifts etc etc. So how do you select the right wax for all these conditions. Just get a good set of sliders to put on the bottom of your sled and be done with it.

I would have sent you what I had if I hadn't thrown it in the garbage.

Think I'll try that on the snowblower. I guess we got some coming.

I used speed wax on my old skis but had to do after a few trips , so I ended up making a pair of skis out of UHMWPE over 3 years and hardly a scratch

I use a block of Paraffin trapper's wax, used for dying and waxing traps.

Rub it onto the ski's,  heat it slightly to melt and then do a second layer.

I’ve used both paraffin (canning wax) and cross country ski multi temp glide wax on the skis rubbed in with a wax cork.  Not much difference between the two ... canning wax much cheaper and I think four large bricks are in a box - Found in the canning section of most grocery stores.  Melted it in in the past with an old iron but dragging over rocks/blacktop kills it.  I’ve also waxed the bottom of the tub with either Johnson’s paste wax or auto wax.  Makes a big difference.  Have the skis screwed directly to tub...  thinking of smittying to drag through deep snow although not sure it would fit in car unless I design a folding sled...

this comes apart in 30 seconds   goes back together in 1 minute   best thing ever for deep snow    don't worry about wax

Okay other than the Paraffin Wax to the skis, I built a Smitty with removable wheels.  Easy on and off when wanted.  Made for the long drag over dry land and parking lots.  Now that we have snow I will remove the wheels.

I used left over ski wax from the ski shops. The give it to me for free.
If it's free, it's for me.
