How far north to find ice
« on: Jan 03, 2023, 08:06 PM »
My ice season has a hard end date as I'm having surgery Feb 8th.  I have 4 days off starting Thursday.   It appears like the traverse city area is even a bit sketchy.   What's in the eastern UP?

Probably slush, tough break but a lot of snowfall and warm temps are making things awful everwhere

Not sure where you live in Michigan but we’ve found good ice up to 11” in the LaCrosse Wi. area on the backwaters of the Mississippi. Great perch, bluegill so far and walkable. I go to Florida February 1st so we’re hitting it hard this month.
Fish as much as you can we're not here forever!

4-6" on Mitchell 3 days ago. Maybe a little better now. There are probably several lakes from Cadillac to the north that are fishable. Missaukee in Lake City and Otsego near Grayling were also being fished. Check out Buc's Northern Michigan Fish Report. He does a lot of scouting during the winter.

Guys still fishing central lower m-55 line north. Not the best ice in spots but still doable with common sense and the right equipment.

I was on Houghton Lake yesterday (East Bay).  6" plus all over.  It was great!
