Trout fishing there is a lot slower than pike. I got one small brown on a jig on the bottom in 30ft if that helps. Pike are more predictable there than trout. Trout can literally be anywhere from 2ft of water to 80ft and anywhere in the water column in between.

Right I find trout fishing to be slower in any trout waters it seems I should stay primarily in deeper waters for them? as I found that near the shore your sure to get a pike bite

Never fished that lake so cant speak to it, but my experience is shallower for trout - 5 to 10 ft of water and bait up higher than you would normally fish.  i also find that jigging something noisy and flashy with one rod, then when you get a fish on your flasher, switch to a small fly - ive been getting a bunch on a simple bead head hares ear nymph.

I would say that shallow in Onota would inevitably draw more pike than trout. Head out over deep water and fish the top 20 feet of the column if you want to exclusively target trout there. That’s what I would do at least. 4 tipups and a sonar/jig

I hear trout fishing at onota is 5 times slower than pike fishing. Not a place I would pick for numbers but there is serious quality there

Slow doesn't bother me just would love to get on a big brown or any trout for the matter quality over quantity is always worth it

I'm going tommorow afternoon and fishing all night and probably into the derby. Going to be a wind tunnel in the morning. Make sure to anchor a shanty if you bring one

Trout don't rise in the graveyard, so fish while you're able

How was the wind? I had to bail on toosuc Friday afternoon I thought my quickfish was going to get ripped apart. It didn't seem to get much better after that. Although sounds pretty quiet right now.

Was out yesterday, wind was blowing so hard it bent the metal anchors holding our pop up shanty to the ice. Brutal!  We lasted from sun up till noon, then called it a day, no fish... maybe next time.

Will be heading 2.5 hours north this weekend. Should I expect to hoof it on the ice or are guys still driving on?

My (open water only) experience there is limited but I feel like I know what I should be doing. If anyone feels like chatting to see if I'm on the right track, shoot me a msg.      See you guys up there.
