SKEGEMOG
« on: Jan 13, 2019, 02:00 PM »
Fished Skegemog this morning _ Sunday 1-13-19
25 degrees with almost no wind.
Very little snow cover

5" of clear ice with maybe 6 or 7" closer to shore.
Seen one quad and one snowmobile.

On the tip-up, I lost a nice Northern at the hole, then proceeded to lose another smaller one at the hole as well.
I forgot my pike tip-up and had to use my walleye tip-up which worked, well not so good  :)

In the shanty, I caught lots and lots of perch.
Most of them are small, so you have to sort to get enough for a meal.

The small perch are very aggressive and will hit anything.
The keepers can be finicky, you have to figure out what they want, which changes day to day and sometimes hour to hour.
Some days they like perch minnows, other days wigglers, spikes or waxies, even had days where butter worms did well.

Sunrise on Skegemog

First perch at 8:30 a.m

Dinner

No wind for the ice boat

Sorry to hear about the truck tranny.
Hopefully, you can catch a ride with somebody down there.

Not to add insult to injury, but if you scroll down past the State forums to "Hard water Cuisine"
Then look for "Deep Fried Perch Two" you can see these fish after they were cooked up for dinner.

Good luck All

Fished Skegemog this morning _ Sunday 2-17-19

About 16" of ice with lots of fishermen, ATV's, UTV's and about a half dozen trucks out.

The lot was full when I left, with about 8 trucks that had to park on the road.

Lots and Lots of little perch. caught well over 50 total.

Only five were keepers  (1) 12" (1) 10" (2) 9" (1) 8"

Everything else was less than 8 inches.

Not enough for dinner so I released them.

Good Luck All

Usually about 10 to 15 feet

You can see the schools come through.

Watch for the better ones that hang off to the side and are not as aggressive as the small ones.

If the little ones are over aggressive you may have to play keep away or move to a different spot

Good Luck All

I've found that the bigger ones on crystal will come up a few feet for a rapala jig
I'd rather be fishing than sleeping
