Hard to tell here. Some drifts, like on the deck and of course in front of the garage door. Some grass poking through elsewhere.

So is the grey area safest to walk or the area with the visible snow on top?

Once the slush freezes there could be double or triple the thickness vs where there's still snow and it didn't slush up. It's not as good as clear black ice but as long as it's below freezing it's good and solid, plus it makes dragging gear pretty dreamy  ;) as always with variable and questionable conditions use your spud bar!
Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

We have gotten close to 15 in the past couple days and still going, wife just told me the drive way is in need of the plow again.  UPS wouldn't drive in yesterday to deliver while I was at work, just trudged through knee deep snow to the mail box and left the package there.  Had about 6in of snow on the lake where I went Saturday, good thing I took the sled might have to take a ride up there tonight for some heavy powder riding.

we got a dusting overnight. lakes have about 2 to 4 inches due to winds. parking has 5 to 6. higher amount where there are drifts.

so how much snow does coldwater area lakes have? i know they have way more ice than calhoun area lakes that i've fished.
