Safe Ice in southwest michigan

Hello,

Indiana resident trying to find some safe ice in Southwest Michigan. A lot of our lakes are opening up. Anybody have any info? Coming from Michigan City area

Not gonna say it’s safe, but they are fishing a few lakes in branch county area, spotty though. U make the call with your spud !!

The ice wasn't great in the St. Joe / Branch area before the snow and 15" of it didn't help. Like gill said, take a spud and have a set of picks if you venture out

Mainly was 5-7” bubble filled ice before the big dump!!

Treacherous. 5" of old ice, 18" of snow that turned to slush, with an inch of re-freeze. Warmup is on the way.

Depends on how far up in SW Michigan you want to go. Best bet is to get above the snow belt. Cause they got hammered last Friday.

Baldwin is iffy with a lot of snow and water on top of the ice. My friend who lives on little Baldwin is off work  recovering from a surgery said it is not very god, but people were out this past weekend

Checked a couple small bodies of water in area and the slush froze solid thru. Don’t know how good it is because it’s slush that froze, u have to be the judge of that !!
