Tactics For Rainbow Trout
« on: Feb 12, 2010, 07:03 PM »
Aaahhhh!!!! :woot:  Found a lake that is supposed to have some rainbows (stocked).  Not a single bite; jigging, tip up, etc.  I even brought out the trout eggs from my open water tackle box.  Nothing.

Any suggestions?  No, i don't have a flasher yet.  It's on my list, hopefully by next season.

Thanks again.

Try small minnows or wigglers.  You might have to start deep and keep moving up until you find the fish if you dont have a flasher.

Last time I went rainbow fishing I moved all over the lake and caught nothing...until I went to moving water (river mouth, spring).  My particular case it was a small river mouth, about 12 FOW.  Used wax worms on a small jig and it worked just fine...

I tip the hook with a piece of shrimp and that seems to do the trick. I jig to bring them in and then slow up once I draw them in. Hope this helps.

Rainbows can usually be caught in the upper part of the water column.
You might have to try different depths.
Try a night crawler under a tip-up.
The reason we're all here is 'cause we ain't all there!
