Any update on the ice conditions?

Just got off the lake 5 inches and melting, seems like less close to shore. Ice cleats needed!

Flints Ivery is a mess and very iffy. Tried to get on off the shore about an hour ago and didn’t feel safe from where I typically go on. Also about 250 geese swarming the area and ponds near the flint lake island so water seems to have opened up somewhere on the lake unfortunately or on one of the areas feeding in/out of the lake. I didn’t check long today as I ran out of time.

I'll be going to ping Tonight to check the ice.  Was there yesterday n all I did was pick up trash at the boat ramp.

But I'll be there tonight after work with the spud n saftey gear to see what the ice conditions are.   I know the drilled holes about 50ft out the water looked very merky but the ice didn't look to bad.

Now I couldn't see how good n what was junk but didn't stay it didn't have cleats to not slip n slide around.   I won't say it's safe nor say go ahead n fish anyone.  Be safe no fish is worth your life.

I will give a update later tonight in what I find however

Ok a local up and to the right of the ramp said we park at the ramp. Target is perch n eyes, 15 to 20? Big drop offs in this lake to 40 to .60 ft.

Two guys tried to venture out on flint last night and couldn’t get on from the shore because ice is real bad. Then ventured over to try to use a nearby dock and got threatened by the neighborhood association group that controls and tents that dock and nearby beach they walked across which was private. Needless to say they couldn’t fish and couldn’t get on any safe ice. This lake is extremely deep deepest I have found is 76 foot many deep holes but to get to the deep holes you are talking about the ice appears to be nearly gone or garbage to get there from the ramp. Maybe someone has a local on the other side of the lake to let you on?  Or bring a long board to get over the bad shore ice. Flint is not a lake you want to go in on. It is extremely deep and bigger than the others with very little access to you if you goninnfor rescue other than the boat ramp which is usually blocked by the people who park directly in the middle of it. Be safe.

I think by Sun the water between the ice will be about 2 in.  One foot in my sled n use my spud as an ore .  Looked like good ice further out, 20 yrds. It might be fine. Hope to see if anyone  went out Saturday,  be safe.CrappieJigger said Loomis is doing good for ice

There is a chance it may have enough to try tomorrow safely but I don’t know if it will be good enough to get out far enough to where a lot of people are talking. If I can get a picture later I will. My spud went through with two whacks last night after I got about 10 yards off shore.  Yes it could have been a bad spot but that does show us all how sketchy the ice was. Maybe it will firm up. Let us know about the conditions in laporte if you get time.

Went out Sunday.  First hole bite after bite. Caught one of the lil perch drinks. Drilled lots of other holes north east corner. Good 6-7 in of ice. One guy fishing north shallows started moving around. Good crowd toward water tower and boat launch. Maybe they did ok.

Was out all day Sunday with that group. Nothing but dink perch. Couldn’t smell anything but sink perch. Drilled at least 50 holes. Ever since first ice been pretty rough go out there and I fish flint the most of all lakes. I will tell you that the ice over near the island was not as thick as the ice on other parts of the lake. Not sure if due to wind or not so still be careful out there. Was about 3.5 inches in some spots Sunday in areas and then other areas were near 6 inches. I didn’t encounter any bad ice though even the 3.5 was solid. Not sure how it will be after this weather but as of Sunday it was decent.

Was on Flint last night with another ice shanty member.   Was a tough bite and no bites.   Seen a few eye on cam but that was about it.

First time being on Flint lake ice in years.

Have some homemade automatic fisherman's and 50 leg mono. Might have to through a sink back with a hook in it's back next time. Sure there is some drink eaters in there. Never had my bait removed from my HM auto fisherman. Willing to give one away see if anyone else would have luck with it. I have like 4 of them. Thanks for the reports. One 45 deg day shouldn't hurt ice too bad.

Not to sure about this weekend, even more unsure about Flint. My mind is shuffling local spots in my head. Big Maple is calling me back. Also L Eliza and others. I'd love to get some feedback on one of my h.m.autofisherman. If nothing else you could swing by South Heaven for one.

Here is what the H.M aitofisherman looks like. Three trigger posts, and trigger and holder are slidable for separation for different size pole, one I use is an ol 3 1/2' Mickey mouse pole for pike and this antique w fly reel for crappie or smaller fish. No success ,always still had bait on. Free for feedback in return. That drink might turn into a 19 in walleye. Easy to copy w a welder, by why not try this first.
