put this one together about a week ago, sits 2 for transport. im going to add a grilling station in the middle part which seems to weak for sitting. any other thoughts. i got the truck box for free and its just been sitting in the yard for a couple years, was sick of getting too much slush in the old sled. this one stays dry

Definately keep your gear dry...
-
That's a good idea. What did you use for ski mounting brackets?
-
i welded some stainless flat bar and bent the brackets to fit. screwed up with the handle design, need to put the pivot further to the front so it lifts highr for hand pulling. has almost no drag with gear loaded.
-
Put an angle brace on each bottom , length wise to strengthen the box. Nice setup seen a couple like that lately

i was thinking of adding some type of running boards to strengthen it up and add a little safety and some handles to hold onto.

Very nice design!

better than a jetsled ;D

Wow thats a great idea.. Never even gave that a thought.
-
I like it.
-
attach some brkts on the top and you can carry your auger on it.
-
that's great and as stated above an auger rack would kick it up another notch . Great job !!! I love to see the custom setups people come up with . ;D ;D

gonna take a while to figure it out, dont want to lose the rear seating for transport and the two seats for fishing comfort. thinking some kind of rack that will hold the bait cooler and auger for transport, and then convert to a higher stove top table for cooking. needs some bungee mounts on the sides as well. maybe even a wind block that s mounted on a couple detachable poles that slide inside the box when not needed. would definatly like to get the bait cooler off the front end of the wheeler, it splashes all over the place when getting to the lake from the camp and i like to keep it as full as possible.

Great idea on the sled...
Here is an idea for your bait bucket...
Put a peice of plastic over the top of the bucket before you put your cover on... ;)
It will help keep most of your water in..

I need me one of them...Jet Sled XL now has a hole worn in the bottom

i know a guy who has these under his jet sled.. i also have them under my otter. they work great, prevent wear, and are replaceable, makes the sled slide easier

heres a better idea.... use a 5 gallon pail with a gasket in it (i.e. pickle bucket etc.). If you have trouble getting the lid off, use a a hacksaw to cut the tabs a but deeper.

nice setup!!

I just reinvented my bait bucket. I was tired of the normal ones with the insulation inside. It was not large enough and when I ride out on
the lake the half of the water sloshed all over the place. Here is what I did and its great. I found a 4 gallon bucket, the same as a 5 or 6
gallon bucket, painted it black for the sun, then added what is know as a Gamma lid. I had picked up 4 of them from Indian Hill last year.
The Gamma lid pushes on the bucket similar to the lids that generally come on it. Throw away the old lid. Once the Gamma lid is on nice
and tight, an internal part will unscrew in seconds for bait access. It is sealed when the cover is on, and no loss of water or bait, and the
amount of water and bait can be increased. The lids cost about $10 wherever you can find them. Its far better than the old bucket.

yeah, I just picked up a viking sled today.
-
that's awesome fishless!!!!!!!! I have one of those out in the she from my old s10. im gona play with that today since we have an ice storm going on rt now. if we don't loose power that is. ;D
as for minnows I use a short fat water jug/cooler.
-
I made one like that out of an aluminum tool box, I put a "rail" on 3 sides of the 3 flats and used bungies to hold stuff on top and still be able to sit on it, could do the same with a few eye bolts.
I also added a little platform to the back and had a cooler that I kept bait in, the added weight in the stern help keep the bow up and towed better.

I've had a couple of the Viking sleds. Definitely cheaper than Jet Sled or Otters, but I don't think they're quite as durable. Sort of a "get what you pay for" kind of deal for me...

Awesome and creative way to repurpose something. I love it.
-
I made a box sled years ago that contains all my gear (fishing, cooking, etc) and doubles as seating. It is full camo, unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it.
But last year I made my buddy one with the same dimensions as my camo one.....
