Clam Plate Age.
« on: Mar 28, 2018, 11:01 AM »
How long ago did clam make the newer model of the clam plate? I am looking at one that is 4 years old and don't want to have to remove a chuck to use it.

Based on these videos

2014/2015 required chuck removal ,added a plastic dip trigger and extended the slot 1 inch on the drill handle bracket for more adjustments/accommodate  more drills

2015/2016 required no chuck removal,a new/taller drill handle bracket with even more adjustment

I believe this is a video of first gen plate ...notice no plastic dipped auger base handle ...but required chuck removal..short bracket

It's odd that the shaft you tighten the chuck to is missing in the Gen 2 pic.

This is the old version, after the drill chuck is removed the drill threaded shaft screw into the plate shaft.

This is the newer version, chuck goes right over the shaft

I didn't think the old version had rubber on the handles?

so if there is a post to clamp onto with your chuck that is what you want so you don't have to remove the chuck. if it isn't there than you don't want it.

here is the current version and what you want.
http://stores.clamoutdoors.com/clam/augers/drill-auger-conversion-kit.html

they are only 70$ new with warranty.

you could post a picture of the one your looking at for us to help.

It does have the post to attach the drill so I guess it is the newer one. Also has the rubber grips.

Mine is the older original version and it has the rubberized grips. I also made an adapter out of a 1/2-20 bolt so I didn't have to take my chuck off.

The original did not have rubberized grips.  They came along with second version.

This is an original clam plate where you had to remove your drill chuck.  I believe there are rubber handle grips and a rubber throttle grip on this unit in the picture.  To determine if it is 1st version or 2nd version go by the shaft feature extending out both side for version 2 or only one side for version 1.

The newer ones also have the taller plate to which the drill attaches to

that's funny, cuz I have one of the original versions and it has rubberized (actually foam) grips. The very first ones to come out didn't have them but they were added later, but it's still the first version.
