Hi everyone! I was lucky to be there on Saturday. What a day - ice fishing can`t be better than that imho...friends, scenery, ice, weather and fish! Our numbers were way more modest but the fun was as great. I`m not very experienced with jigging for them lakers, used flasher for the first time ;D and man, it makes difference. It was cool just to see how they rise to the lure and follow it for like 10 feet. Had many chasers, maybe 5-6 fish in 15 minutes at some time but it was crazy difficult to make them hit it. I definitely learned something new. Special thanks to Captain JJ, especially from kids, for all his care, knowledge and assistance!  ;)I`ll try to post some pics later..

Mike-glad you and your team did THIS well. Congratulations!

Way to go Andrey! Look forward to seeing your pics! Glad you had a great time with the Captain!

Mike

Yikes it seems like its very iffy. The last time I ice fished around Hague The fishing was pretty good. I fished the south end by hearthstone and I only caught 1.

thanks for the tips man

Jimi, as Jon suggested, when the chasing slows down and/or the lakers go neutral, slow and subtle finesse "jiggling" with plastics can fill in the void between feeding frenzy's! I'm not an expert by any means at finesse fishing but here's what worked VERY well the past two days:

- Keitech Plastics, "Shad Impact 4" with squid scent #416 Silver Flash Minnow (think smelt)

- Tube Jig Head, 1/4 oz #39090

Carefully thread the hook about 1" into the body of the swim bait
Put a few drops of Smelt Rite on swim bait

I was ever so slowly jiggling the swim bait 5-10' off the bottom. When a laker started to rise to the bait I would equally as slow reel away from the fish.  You'll know when he eats it! Set that hook! You get a few more lost fish because its only a single hook but when nothing else works its better than nothing! Interestingly, all of the better fish, 25"+ all came on the plastics.

Ask Tony at Fish307 to show you where they are.  We were discussing the potential this morning as to their effectiveness.  THEY'RE EFFECTIVE!  :)

Good luck-Mike

I don't know a damn thing about the perch beds and I was able to get to 50' last weekend but not this weekend.. its a little sketchy but i can get out on to the ice i just need a fishing buddy for some added confidence.. I'm a newby so i need someone with me cuz walking on the ice freaks me out with open water surrounding me.

your more than welcome to accompany me tommorow im going ft ann beach and will be fishing alone.

I have yet to learn the finess bite but one thing that has worked at least a dozen times last week, when I couldn't mark a fish for ten minutes I set my lute 5 feet off bottom to let it un wind, as I use no swivel. And 8 outa ten times a fish sneaks up from under it. I then drop the lure to the dirt and begin the chase. If he stops I start over in the dirt always. Do two little 6 inch pops then start reeling and jiggling away. Definitely not 100% effective but it's working. The biggest problem I feel most are having, goes along with what Jon said. You need to act like the bait they are eating. Or use your lure to its fullest potential. I fish pimples and buck shots similar, but yet different. Both baits I slam off the ground a few times, then rip it up 6 feet. ( a dying bait that struggles to get off bottom) then every now and then I real it up semi quick to the mid column, and free fall to the ground. ( just got its life back and dies again) so now if I get a looker remember your a dying bait that has just seen a laker. You gotta get out of their but your still dying. With a pimple I real and wiggle pole side to side, with a buckshot I use the rattle and reel, pop the pole up and down and reel. If they stop chasing at any time, I start over on bottom, they follow it down sometimes it lands in another ones mouth. Sorry for the rant, hope it helps.
Obi Wan says "Be one with the fishes."  ;D Good stuff right there.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

Try a 4 inch tube bait with the lead head a little more than half way in the tube. Little bit of fish fillet on the hook and 12 or 14 treble set up stinger style a couple inches behind the bait. Reel up away from the trout. Those trout a lot of times are nipping at the tail of the bait. Please practice catch and release because you will  catch a lot believe me. It is the best way when they are in the chase by not eat mood.

I saw a bearded man fishing with 2 other younger guys late 20's on saturday at Lake Rd. One of his buddies was using a full size rod    ??? . The older guy on a bucket - He caught a 34" northern in 20' of water. nice fish man. Are any of you posters this man?? I was the first knuckle head to come over and do the "hey whatcha got there" move. It was an impressive looking fish from a far. I just had to take a gander.

cheers
