to shim or not to shim is the question
« on: Jan 27, 2013, 08:23 PM »
hello, i finally got to try out my old auger. its a osciola magnum 3  3hp 33hp   it has the older blue mora bit on it.. anyway   it does  work great i went through 5.5 inches of ice  in less than a min.   but at times it seemed that i have to put some pressure on it to cut a little faster.  it cut smooth and shaved the ice. but i was thinking that maybee shimming the blades might make it cut faster. also it seemed to go faster if i sped up the rpm's by hand while cutting( pushing the throttle plate on carb).  the blades are sharp. but maybee could use some new ones..  or is this auger  usually on the slow side of hole cutting

If it is getting the job done, why bother messing with it?
