Slammer Tip-ups
« on: Jan 13, 2003, 02:23 PM »
Has anyone used slammers, I have one (homemade) and I like it.  I use it for bass, perch, walleye, pike, steelhead, and crappie.  It's great for light baits, and it's fun to bring in a nice big fish on rod and reel.  If you have used one please instant message me and tell me what u caught and what u caught it on. ;D

I have not used one yet but i was wondering, are they looked at as tipups or poles by the Game wardens?

I was thinking of picking one up as well.  How well do they work for panfish.

Those look like they'd be fun, especially for deep water. Also, would definately be considered poles, here in PA. Still, wouldn't mind field testing one!

just curious  what kind of  set up you use at the end  of the rod tip. so it pops up when you get a fish on?

You use a large slpit ring and stick the second from the last rod eyelet inside the split ring and when a fish bites it tugs on the line and pulls it out of the split ring.

Has anyone tried making a home-made slammer.  If so how did you go about making it ????  Any tips on making one would be very helpful.  Thanks

These definately look to be fun. Has anyone tried using these, or a variation, for vertical boat fishing? How about a horizontal presentation, Bullhead fishing or something similar?

PM me to swap information on fishing holes or to go fish'in sometime in the Syracuse Central NY area (Onondaga and Madison county water holes in particular).

Couldn't keep the bullhead off long enough to clean my boat at the marina this summer. I used chunks of salmon skein for bait. Also caught crappie, perch, pike, bass, and had a 20+ pound dogfish on for about a minute.
