I was at a tournament at Lake Camelot a couple of years ago. A guy was frying fish. I asked him what kind and he said Krogers grocery store. lol.

That's wrong on a lotta levels. We fish a social event and keep a buncha pike early. I fillet 'em and Doug fries 'em. Very, very yummy... That's livin'! That's followed by beer, racks of BBQ ribs, beer, salads, beer, slaw, beer...

Hey, I said it was a so ci al event, right?
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

A little Mickey D's for breakfast, and some jerky and peanuts with water for lunch. Then hopefully some fresh fish for dinner!

Later in the season (drivable) it gets pretty good. 3 of us with shacks so we all set up with about 10 people all together, when we can find a sitter the wife loves to fish and we really get the good food. Normal days are Mickey D's and gas station, but when we get the down time it's grilled or pan seared venison, bacon & eggs, corn dip, pizza, and whatever the top chef decides to throw at us... Kinda nice that the wife enjoys seeing what she can knock out on an ice castle stove for the group almost as much as the fishing 😀
How many times do I gotta go through holes before I watch where I'm going? I am an amateur fisherman, but an all star minnow drowner!

breakfast-made night before scramble up eggs, homefries, bacon, ham, and sausage and put in large wrap with cheese. Spray Pam on foil and wrap and then heat up easy on any type grill in AM.
A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!

I usually just take easy eats like home smoked cheese with crackers, apples, jerky etc. When I do cook I usually use a Weber go anywhere grill. Sausage, dogs, burgers are the usual fare. Mine is charcoal but they do make a propane model. Generally I only do it on a lake where I am fairly close to my truck, because all my fishing is walk in. Usually mid day when the bite slows is good, but I always have snacks in case fishing stays hot.

  • Ice fishing a sport, or just reason to buy stuff?

In my sadistic way, I usually bring sardines along with the cheese and crackers, just something about eating fish when fishing. Hard to beat the smokie link sandwich off the wood stove in the shanty on a frosty day.  More coffee please.

In years past we have done brats on the Mr. Heater Buddy..........its not good on your heater a lot of grease generated cooking brats. This last sports show I bought a Can Cooker Jr. and the Multi Fuel Cooktop that is coming along this year. You can cook just about anything in this can. Planning on a crawdad boil at first ice!
Everyday I think...........is this the day that I can finally go hit the ice?

Ice fishing is one of the few times I'm away from food and don't miss it.  If my local ice was better (season getting shorter and shorter) I wouldn't pick up the winter 10# year after year.

Big fan of Jalapeno-cheddar brats on the ice, super easy and just pack along some hot dog buns.

The chaps and I like a little light luncheon when we are engaging in piscary pursuits on water that has overcome the latent heat of fusion.

For example the menu for tomorrow's soriee includes, but is not limited to:

Warm Deluxe Mixed Nuts with Old Fashioned Cocktail

Jumbo Shrimp & King Crab Cocktail

Caesar Salad w/ Anchovies

3 bottles of Domained'AuvenayCriots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Orange Sherbert, (Palate Cleanser)

Beef Consomme

Lime Sherbert, (Palate cleanser)

3 bottles of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti 1990

Beef Wellington, pastry wrapped with truffles
Duchess Potatoes
Artichoke Gratinata

Orange Sherbert, (Palate Cleanser)

Crepe Suzzette

3 bottles of De Zellaer Colheita Tawny Port

Assorted cheeses

3 bottles of  Remy Martin XO

Romeo & Julietta Short Churchills

As I say, this is a light luncheon intended to keep body and soul together until upon leaving the ice we can procure some gas station burritos and red bull...

Ice fishin' & turtlin's all I crave...

I open a can of tuna and after eating it I dip my plastics in the oil and the fish bite a lot better.
May the fish be with you.

I bring some granola bars or fruit bars and bottled water.
If it's real cold, a thermos of hot cocoa with ground red pepper for added heat.

I'm surprised no one has mention ordering out and having it delivered by drone??? ;D
