Take a look at Team Northland Ice rod. I looked at a few of them last week at a show. They seem to be really nice and affordable. They are comparable to the st croix rods that cost so much.

Does anyone here use the Marmish rods? I would think they are pretty sensitive.

I love the st croix legend rods but noticed this year the spring bobbers on them are not of high quality...

Ya, and the legends are listed at $5 more than last year.  Quality down/price up.

The ones I build myself are the nicest rods I've ever used :-)  Maybe I'm just biased....  As far as commercially available rods - the St. Croixs are ok - the spring bobber is great, the rest of the rod is just ok - low quality guides, decent blank.  I've always thought Frabill makes some very nice rods - the Bro series is nice, even if you are SICK of that guy...  Stay away from Clam - junk.  TB rods are the gold standard - but they are pricey.

I like the Frabill Bro series light action and quick tip.
Another option is the ice hunter series, and they put a little less hurt on the wallet in these times.

The rod I got from my dad when I was 5 is still my go to. Old foam handle, black circle reel, spring bobber, option clip on stand. I have bought a bunch of rods since but when I think about it most of the time I have the old one in my hand and let my buddies or girlfriend use the newer stuff. I just wish I was on a bucket with that old rod in my hand right now!!!!!!

The new fenwicks are really nice, twist on reel seat, great cork handle very sensitive. Ultra Light to Medium Heavy. I've got a Medium Light and it's very sensitive. Check em out!

I got a St. Croix premier ML last year and loved it.  Adding a new Fenwick M this year to my arsenal.  $22 including shipping at Amazon.com.  Great price and I hope I like it more than the St. Croix because of the price.  Also like that it has the reel seat.  I don't really care for the heat shrink crap that came with the St. Croix.

I got the ML and the M fenwick. The tip on the ML fenwick is softer than my 28'' UL st.croix........ AND DOES THE SHIMANO SEDONA 500 LOOK HOT!!!!!!!!!!! on it.
