Stolen pop-up!!!! F%$#@ers and big lake ice report
« on: Mar 12, 2020, 11:58 AM »
Had a Polar bird pop up off Levitts beach stolen this past weekend. Its Blue and Yellow. This is a long shot, but if anyone knows anything please reach out. on another note if you go to the left of the beach you can get on. once on its 6 to 7 inches of ice with lots of bubbles in the ice. safe for walking. no way I would bring a wheeler out.

Just wondering did you leave it out there overnight? I'll keep my ears open. Bubbly ice scares me.

Yeah I had it out over night. It was out past the first island. Been there for a month. Secured to the ice, Been going up every weekend. It’s not a normal pop up. It’s huge and has a removable floor. Very nice. I don’t know why people have to steal. It’s ok I’ve never seen one like it in the state. And I know every rip in it. Ima beat someone with my Chisel when they decide to use it.

I looked at those polar pop ups before I bought my Otter...nice units!
I would never leave mine out as I trust no one.
Hope you find who took yours...
Maybe there’s a camp/house that may have seen something (or is it too remote an area?)

For the record so I don't get kicked, I'm not going to beat the first person I see with a polar bird pop up with my chisel. I am going to beat the person I see with MY polar bird pop up with my chisel. She's been with me for 10 plus years and I know every homemade patch job and rip in it. lol  Some people are crazy had someone tell me it was my fault for leaving it. Shouldn't be any different then leaving a hard site up all winter and expecting it to not get molested. I dragged it 1.3 miles off levits beach. I had it secured to the ice on all 4 corners and all 4 side straps. it sat unmolested since the derby. I spend a couple days every week in it. This Friday I fished all day and moved it closer to Levits. secured it down again. went back up Saturday night to cusk fish and it was gone. Going back this weekend to search the islands, but I know what I am dong and am highly confident it did not blow away. sucks but life goes on.

Well not much to say but anyone can break down a pop-up and walk away with it..... U can't walk away with a permanent.  You were lucky to fish out of it for that long. That sucks but 10 years and u leave it out . You got your money's worth I guess. Live and learn. It's 2020 they don't make many good people anymore. Sorry about your pop up.

Thieves suck for sure... You've mentioned that you know every patch and tear but was it marked with your contact info? If not maybe F&g has it? Might be worth a call. Good luck finding it.

I think you’re (the OP) missing the point of this post.

You’re saying you’re going to assault the person who is fishing in your shack. The guy who posted this is saying when you find you’re shack, the guy in it probably bought it from the thief, and is undeserving of your proposed beating.

I hate thieves. But come on man, you think a fisher person stole this? Some junkie did, and they’re going to sell it to someone who’s probably not a thief.

It is times like this that you wish for a GPS homing device to find it.

Actually, you could make a security system out of a Game Cam with a cell transmitter. Set it up in the inside to start taking and sending photos when the door is opened. Then these photos get sent to your cell phone and you can actually do something about the issue.

I don't think that a junkie stole it. Too much work and suffering for a junkie to go out on the lake for a used shelter. Most likely a guy that was tired of fishing outside and wanted to score his own shelter.

Case in point...

Just a thought, maybe check with Fish and Game. Was it properly marked with your name, address and a phone number? Did it have the required 6 square inches of reflective material on each side? If not it's possible they removed it from the ice because it's not legal for being kept out there unattended. But if it was, then yep, someone probably lifted it.

I'm not defending the actions of a thief, but personally I would never leave a portable unattended on the ice. Doesn't take much time for someone to steal. And I don't trust anyone. Actually, if I left my Clam Bigfoot out overnight I would almost expect it to be taken. I know, hindsight is 20/20.

Also check online for sale sites. If someone was ignorant enough to taking something that didn’t belong to them they may be stupid enough to post it for sale

Even though I fish on deserted lakes with very few (if any) "neighbors," it would not cross my mind to leave my shelter out over night. There is still to much "city-distrust" to place my possessions on the unattended platter of ice simply trusting everybody's honesty that it would be there the next day. It very well might still be there, because there are many many honest people. But all it takes is one...just sayin.

Sorry to hear about this, that really sucks! I only ice fish out of pop up shelters. Only time my shelters have stayed out overnight is if I’m camping in it. Also on 3rd CT I will leave it up for a few days if I’m camping close by on the shore in the woods. I trust no one other than some good friends! Plus I’m just too worried about the wind ripping it out of the ice anyway. I don’t care how good your pop up is secured to the ice, the wind is stronger and will tear that thing like a piece of paper!  I hope you find your shelter tho....
