Keep 1/4,3/8,1/2 oz jigs available , depends on water flow and depth. You need to hold bottom when jigging just like cod fishn. I also have done well experimenting with lead core trolling walleye spinners / beads. Three way swivels w/ dropper sinker on light line to break off easy , and troll the spinner rig +-2’ off bottom. So many ways

I've fish the CT River a bunch...Dunphy11 is spot on hold the bottom while jigging in current.  Also, husky jerks in fire tiger are deadly. Anything bright will produce.

If you get into smallies in there, hold on, a river fish fights like it weighs twice as much, that current really makes strong fighters. It's a blast fishing that river because you never know what's on the end of your line. A monster brown or Pike could surprise at anytime. It's truly a special place for us lucky to be close to it.

Yes, very familiar with River fish. Specifically Browns and Smallies. It’s what I grew up on. I do have a massive jerk collection including fire tiger for the muddied up water days from high cfs it’s how I typically fish for large trout.

I love rivers, everchanging and constantly new opportunities. If you can fish a river successfully you can fish anything

X2 on boat control.

X2+++ on smallies on the river. Often a small hit, set the hook and hang on. I recall getting a big smallie just over 5 lbs in a tourny out of Bellows Falls. Great battle and a check for big smallie for the event.

I got a BIG Pike out of the same general area. 42 inches weighed at just over 18 lbs. I got that on a 5 inch senko on 8 lb test with no leader. Long battle and that pike was in charge for a while

I'll take you out if you promise not to behave. Your setup with the 6-8 lb. mono is fine that's what I use. Their bite is usually very light. There is pike where I catch them so sometimes you will get a bite off with them. Have you ever caught a pike? Fishing early and late in the day is the time, they are very light sensitive. Hopefully the runoff from up north will not create flood conditions it just makes it harder to fish for them. I can set you up in my wife's she shed in the backyard. Pick CD up along the way.
That's a great invite Denny, thank you very much! Sounds like a great trip and time.

I’d love to! No no pike either. I’ve slept in worse!  ;D Richard will keep me in line
I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a pike and eye virgin also. Frank and I live aways from those fish. When I traveled, they weren't what I was targeting. Not the first time I slept in a she shed, although we didn't call them that, back in the day.  ;)

Frank - I think you pretty much have everything you need here. 10-15lb braid with 6-10lb flouro is spot on. I did not read this whole thread so I do not know how you are fishing for them but this will work if you are shore casting, casting form a boat or vertical jigging. I hit the eyes hard in North Carolina on Lake Fontana. We were vertically jigging them with a spoon and they were crushing it hard. We never had any issues with their teeth and abrasion. They are tasty for sure!
Just add water.

Sounds good, Denny. Would be great to fish and spend time with both you and Frank.
Around here, we have little or no frost in the ground and very little snow.
March could change things. We'll have to see...  :-\

I typically fish pre spawn on the CT near my House. Flat bottom boat, electric motor, back trolling raps 6-14 fow. Good times right there. Many, many wallies, typically 12-18", have gotten a few big ones. What is awesome is that you never know what you're going to catch. Also pick them up randomly south of BF in the summer while chasing smallies.

awesome thread here, just read through it. I just moved to the Lebanon/Hanover area so will be trying my luck up here for the first time ever walleye fishing. Will post how I do, may try this weekend. If anyone fishes up this way for Walleye/ends up in the area, would love to pick your brain and learn something. Any of you keep anything you catch out of the CT or is it pretty dirty?

Every one of these fish was caught on the same jig... Never re tied... Biggest one was caught at 430 this afternoon... 6lb mono.... Walleye teeth are like a cats.... More for holding on than shredding like a pike....

Nice, what jig? Tipped with anything? What type of water? Depth, current etc.

Retrieval method??

Green qtr oz jig white body... Let sink to the bottom then slow retrieve if you are bumping bottom a lot then go a tad faster.... You WILL lose jigs til you find all your snags... But once you know your area it aint so bad... If your flow is faster than 1000 cubic feet per second go up to 3\8 oz... Find swirli g water and eddies... Walleye are generally lazy and love slack water... They will suspend innthe slack water and ambush disoriented baitfish that get pushed into it... 90% of my fish have been caught within 15 feet of shore.... Low water look for deep pools... High water look for brushy areas out of the current

I never asked.... Are you shore fishing or from a boat... And what is the average depth of the body of water... It makes a difference in tackle
