Early ice
« on: Oct 23, 2023, 02:39 PM »
Starting this weekend, looks like there might be some early ice coming to many parts of Wyoming, including non mountain areas. Don't think it'll hold, but might be enough to get out on for a day if you Have the right safety equipment.

In northern Wyoming, beginning tomorrow, we will have low temperatures in the single digits for 5 days and highs below freezing.

In a canal, where I trap minnows, I had to use my spud bar today to break the ice to get to my minnow trap. Around ¾ inch of ice. Water temp has dropped fast the past few days.

Very cold around se Wyoming too, but not as much as predicted a week ago. Probably not going to make enough ice to fish this time. Hopefully by mid November like last year.

I’ve been hunting since the cold front hit. The small ponds are frozen and I stood on a couple. Not sure I’d drill a hole yet.  Another day or so maybe. Did harvest two elk so I’m ready for winter now!

No ice here yet but the lakes on the mountain were starting to cap. But with the snow and all should have cooled the water temp down a bit and getting them closer to freezing. Thinking if we get the cold in the next couple of weeks as they are predicting then around Thanksgiving or a little after the small lake should have enough to get out on and fish.

Unfortunately, I put the boat away yesterday for the season after looking at the ten day forecast so I might have to take a ride to Meadowlark next week.
