Braided Line

What's the scoop on rigging your tip ups with braided line like fireline or spiderwire?  Does anyone use this stuff and does it work well attached to squid line in place of mono?

Problem with no stretch, very thin diamenter line like fireline or spiderwire is it cuts your fingers up bad when you hook a big fish.  May get you more flags, but is very hard on the fingers with big fish.  We've tried using these lines and went away from them pretty quickly because of this.

squid line??

I use Slammer Tip-Ups which sit on top of the ice and are used in conjunction with a spinning rod and reel. Braided or fused lines will get fused to the ice where as monofilaments (or copolymers, fluorocarbons, and other "slick" lines) will wick water and can be pulled through the ice if your hole skims over.

I agree with farmboy also. I use Fireline for certain applications when river and Big Lake fishing and it will cut your fingers but good.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
