This already sounds like it's heading toward the grumpy side. Of course I got a new yorker's back. I'll take tasty white fillets over a sewer trout any day.

I've had blue gills cooked in beer batter, they were good. I have to agree.

But full grown men posing with a 6" sunfish............... the only pics I have of sunfish is my 6 yr old daughter........12 years ago.....

That's what makes me chuckle.........like I said, it's a Maine thing.  :-\

I definitley agree. Your never gonna get a huge sunny mounted and hung off the wall in the living room to show off to your buddies. My method of attack on the ice includes 5 tip ups for the "sewer trout". I love the fight. I jig Pannies while I wait for a flag. I gave away the meat from my last two laketrout. I have a hard time even sharing my cute little tiny fillets. I fish trout for the thrill. I fish panfish for the eat's. I can see why you maine dude's have a problem with them though. I won't hate on you guy's. If it's not a native species to a body of water. I agree they could wreak havoc on a trout fishery. You guy's up there start putting up weekend room n board for New yorker's and we can start helping with your "problem" fish. ;)

Who said they're all 6"?  They come bigger than quite a few of those little stocked brookies. ;)

If you lived in maine you wouldn't have sewers running into your local ponds like they have in NY

Not just a Maine thing...I was wondering the same thing myself. Always thought of sunfish as something that gets in the way when i'm fishing for bass....

But i won't knock it anymore.....I'll give it a try next time I catch a few and see what they taste like

I guess it's just a Maine thing, but it cracks me up......... :roflmao:  :pinch:

Pike?  You bet!  Taste awesome!   Taste like fresh stocked Trout!  LOL. You just have to get the "Y" bones out for easy eating.  Really sweet tasting fish, but requires a decent fish to make it worth the hassle.  You can also fillet them and grind em up to get rid of the bones.

Either that or I'm retarded or something, but I have been known to eat Raccoon, Muskrat, Turtles, Beaver (taste like Pork)
