dead bait -vs- live bait on tip ups for northern

what do you think? i really want to try dead bait on a tip up but don't want to waist my time, until i get some real feedback on the subject. thanks.

Everyone that I know of including a guide on Devils Lake ND uses dead bait. Their stand is that Northern are so aggressive that dead bait provides an easy meal for them.
