Will My New Shelter Cause Cancer????
« on: Feb 11, 2019, 02:37 PM »
I found this label on my New Clam® Kenai Pro Ice Shelter that suggest is could cause cancer or reproductive problem.  The warning looks something like these ]https://www.google.com/search?q=prop+65+warning+labels&rlz=1C1GCEU_enUS820US820&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjMgJW-w7TgAhUInlkKHcblAC0Q_AUIDygC&biw=2133&bih=1076]

Should I be concerned?

Only if you take it to California.

Just keep your pants on while inside and you can probably avoid the reproductive harm.

Only if you take it to California.

:roflmao: Seems about right to me .

But to address the original post, I wouldnt be any more concerned than you are with microwaves, driving in a car, drinking out of a plastic bottle, or other normal activities in 2019. My guess is they have some insurance break or the like for adding that warning label due to whatever materials they used in construction. Adding those types of disclaimers keep companies from getting sued for expensive medical bills. If fishing were to give me cancer you better believe I am still going to go fishing. Anything else in life I would probably give it up.
It doesn't sound that appealing to most people I talk to, but going out onto a frozen lake and staring into a hole for the day is my favorite thing to do.

I get out to California every few years and even their motels have signs posted giving that cancer warning that you are exposed to when staying on their property. Apparently Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona motels are safe though. Even Mexico lacks that warning but I wouldn't suggest suggest a motel there over the last 20 years or so. By the way, when you buy a new lure look at the packaging. The California warning is on many of them so you are safe using the lure here but not the golden state.  ???

This past Christmas, my daughter in LA made the mistake of ordering a Clam rod case to her house in stead of mine in NY.  Fish USA was not able to ship it to California because the rod case might cause cancer and the order was cancelled. Thankfully, it was reordered and sent to NY.  Hard to believe, but there are states more screwed up than NY

That is nuts. Just don't eat your rod case and you should be fine.

Ice fishing would be harder to quit chewing tobacco and I can't seem to quit that so if It causes cancer, bring on the chemo but I aint stopping!!!!

No knocking boots in the shelter, unless of course you want to be sterile... In which case "knock" away!!!

All kidding aside, pretty much anything can cause cancer according to California they've cried Cancer wolf for so long - we'll never pay attention if something REALLY is a carcinogen..

Anything you buy now causes cancer in California. Yet another reason to stay out of that state.

When I first read the original post I immediately thought it would have something to do with California....as far as screwed up as NY...I think NY is going to be the California of the east.

I posted this to see what people would say regarding cancer and reproductive issues, knowing my shelter was not going to harm me at all.

We have been putting this label on the product we manufacture at the plant I work at.  The reason many products carry this label is because of the cost of testing to document a product does not cause cancer or reproductive issues. It is easier to just put the warning on everything to eliminate any liability.  We have used leaded steel to make our products for over 50 years with no claims of harm from the lead. Really the warning is meaningless in regard to the risk of cancer or reproductive issues.

I will enjoy my Clam Nanook Thermal Ice Shelter for years with no worries of cancer from the shelter.

I have found that living will kill you, life is 100% fatal.  Everyone that lives will die some day. I just try to make good decisions in hopes of avoiding a untimely end.
