Ice is good at schroon. Get on at boat launch or beach. Some edges are iffy. Fishing is slow. 2 days 2 keeper lakers. Bring spud some old holes r covered with snow .

back from my schroon trip. fishing was very slow. probly should plan trip for before derby next year. 14 lakers total for trip only 2 keepers. most fish were caught on jig poles in 45 fow. thanks to all the guys who kept me posted on the ice conditions. the info was greatly appreciated.

Just got back from schroon. Got 1 24 inch Laker in 15 fow. Had 2 bite through my line. And caught around 30 perch. Windy Saturday. Ice was around 14 inches where I was. Not many people fishing.

Thanks.  The narrows.  Only been up to schroon a few times this year, lots of salmon set up hits...but this was the first to get hooked.

I'd call that trip a success.
Glad you got out and caught some. Schroon is fun . I need to target some toothy critters a bit more but those little trout are addictive.

The last time I was out was a week ago Tues, before the 2 snowstorms.  I said back then I was done, the ice was getting soft, the Ion went through it twice as fast as the week before, and the drillings were damp, which tells me it's starting to rot.  After the first storm I heard multiple reports of guys falling in up to the top of their legs from old holes and drainholes that they couldn't see.  There has been a number of guys fishing off the launch in town the last couple weeks, and some reports on Facebook have said Lakers and perch are being caught.  But I can't, in good conscience tell you guys it's safe.  This weekend it's going to be around zero degrees, so if you need to go, wear flotation clothing, just in case.

And it's killing me knowing the fishing has been good  :%$#!:  Plus I've been practically living in my plow truck lately.

Looks like about average sized lake trout for schroon

Really? My good buddy said it is a brookie because of the white on the edge of the bottom fins. I'm not a trout fisherman so I don't know much about them but it put up a hell of a fight and was a beautiful fish.

Looks like a laker to me. Brookies normally have a reddish color on the belly and the fins are normally that reddish color with a black/ white fin tips. They also have a body like a brown or rainbow , and flat stumpy tail not a fork tail

Went off Adirondack today, 16in hard ice with a couple inches frozen slush on top. Snow was not too bad, mostly frozen so the drag was not difficult. Bite was slow getting on was no problem.

Yup. Those are lake trout. They can look alot alike as they are both char. Unlike browns and rainbows which are actually trout.
