Anyone have a part number or a link to the right replacement blades?

Also, I’d like to get my current blades sharpened, but wanna keep the current blades installed until I get the replacement. Suggestions for sharpening?

Thanks in advance.

Eskimo RB8 or ION sku 11735

Most hand augers with  Mora/flat/shaver blades will fit the best blades are the SM Mora as they are stainless steel ..pricey .

As for hand sharping my suggestion below ..The angle should be 25 deg..use a black sharpie to mark the edge (see video)

these were going for around $20-$25 a little while ago

https://www.amazon.com/Sharpener-Professional-Stainless-Sharpening-Whetstones/dp/B08GK6311V/ref=sr_1_21?crid=14OBRX7TOJ138&keywords=ruxin+800&qid=1642678974&sprefix=ruxin+800%2Caps%2C67&sr=8-21

There are Apps for the phone to get the angle ..but I prefer a dedicate gauge

These are on Amazon ..just note if they send you the Made In China blade they are the inferior type ..return or exchange ..the blades should say Made In Sweden

Dang Hardwater.  Good stuff! I’ll look for the Made in Sweden version.

I recall that there’s a specific auger that the manufacturer sharpens their blades for free or cheap.  Should you happen to know which?

These are probably the most inexpensive ...free ship after $50 ..use code SAVE10  for order over $50 ..

My advice is to leave the sharpening of the old blades to the professionals. My index finger on my right hand is proof that this task is much better done by them than us amateurs. It was much less painful to just order a new set to take out on the ice with me than to live on the wild side and try to sharpen the old blades myself.

Just saying.

Tight lines and stay safe.

I agree GF Hardwater. I already lost part of a finger because of a shop accident.  Don’t want to risk it.

Hardwater and Hardwater-
I’m leaning towards just getting a 8.5” KDrill and a few spare blade sets and just sending the blades to get resharpened for free.

The K-Drill especially at 8.5 will not be the fastest cutting thing on ice ..no matter what make/model drill you are using . But it will last quite a few years of cutting before sharping or changing of blades ..but the K-Drill does shine on dirty ice .

Subway4X4 what is your current drill and auger set up ? Why are you disappointed/want to change?

Pistol bit 8” without center point. Got it just before they switched over to the center point.

Wanders on initial start. But controllable.  I kind felt screwed when Eskimo came out with the center point a month after my purchase.

Is it skipping on you really bad ?  That would be my concern. for certain .Not sure how handy you are but you may be able to add a center point ..the composite bottom is held in by one bolt ..and the same bolt holds the center point ..yo may be able to Dremel out the bottom to accommodate the center point

Welp Hardwater.

Based on your suggestions, I took a deep breath…

I ordered a fresh set of Eskimo RB8 blades from Walmart because they were OEM, cheapest and direct ship from Ardisan.

I’ll install those new blades, then look to ship the current ones to get sharpened by a pro.

Thanks for your help!

My pistol bit blades were jumk pretty much rightb.out of the box, they arn't even stamped ",china" no.markings at all, I also.have an Ion. I have spare blades, the new Ion blades have a serial number stamped on them..

You can see the differance in the color of the steel from the heat treat..

Sharpening the blades is not difficult.. there is a nice thread on this site for those that dont know how..
That being said, I wouldn't bother sharpening  the cheap blades. They won't hold an edge anyway, because of the poor heat treat.
