The drill part to my new Eskimo is 10ft under water now.... It was new, never even crossed my mind to double check the bolt that connects the drill to the head Please do yourself a favor and check yours. Going out to lake with a 250lb strength magnet this week.... But guys do check yours, especially if u have a new one and u only put it together once recently

Total bummer losing stuff down the hole, this was the last thing I thought... I did hook it with a hook so it is right below the hole... Hoping the magnet works

Happened to a fishing partner last year, did use a magnet, it worked first try. Couldn't believe it worked, good luck

good luck you should have no problem with the magnet. Try a little lock tight on the bolt next time.
I'd rather be fishing than sleeping

I just added a 12" extension yesterday (upcoming northern MI fishing trip just in case precaution) and the fact that I have never checked that bolt since I put my auger together crossed my mind...she was still tight but that would def suck to lose.

Thanks for the heads up...almost lost mine this year too. I try to make a habit of checking it over before drilling, but sometimes I forget. Hope you get it back. It'll be there come spring if the magnet don't work. Scuba gear

It almost happened to me also. When I bought mine it loosened up the first time I used it and when I got home I replaced the nut with a nylock style lock nut. I don't remember but I think I had tro replace the bolt also to get the extra length. Was still tight when I sold the auger many years later

I used my camera to see the auger and then used my gaff with some rope to hook the auger and pulled it up 17 feet when my friend cut his finger on the blades. 7 stitches but managed to get it back

Thanks carver1!! I decided to check the Ion's bolts and sure enough they weren't as tight as they should be.

I run a drill set up and the attachment bit snapped leaving my auger bit to continue to twist down the hole. after weeks of no problems I had taken the silly looking disc off  :-\  16 lbs magnet wouldn't get it...going back with 40 lbs on Monday....side note, I did get on a hot perch bite and got my biggest of the season in a previously drilled hole...nearly 13"

I put red loctite on mine, knowing it would not be likely id need to take it off. Checked it a couple weeks ago and i could not budge it, which is good. Heat will remove it if ever needed.

I had a hand auger and the bolt fatigued through - didn't lose the unit but the connection slipped and it wouldn't drill.  So you should check the tightness and every now and then examine the bolt and make sure its OK.
