Ice is HERE - MA Cuttbow
« on: Nov 17, 2020, 09:07 AM »
We went out in hopes of getting some browns on jerkbaits one last time, the lake was capped so decided to drive around to do some scouting. Managed to locate 4 inches of the most dangerous ice I've ever seen, not in the sense of how thick or thin it was but how sharp it was. I swear if you slip and fell you'd puncture an organ. Anyway here is a little video out of the trip!

Thanks Nate, good to hear from you. Yea, the thickness wasn't even the worst part. The sharp ice that could puncture an organ if you slip and fell was the worst part.

Yea, freaky for sure especially all the sharp ice sheets. Had to walk with care hah. Staying close to shore and watching what that wind did is important but it held well and got some neat fish. All released and swimming.

Just this past sunday, went out with jerkbait fishing for browns in mind and ended up ice fishing because there was no open water.

WesternSloperFlyNIce,

That ice is created by the shoreline having broken up ice being hit by the rest of the lake ice breaking up and colliding with the shore ice, once they run into each other and the temps drop the ice re-freezes with ice sheets already broken at the shore and the rest of the ice sheets coming into shore ice. There for it freezes all ugly like that. All it takes while sitting on that ice is for a wave to happen underwater and you'd literally drop right into the lake. Luckily no waves that day I went out. Not the best ice to be on even though it was 4 to 5 inches.
