Good morning everyone,

WW, congrats to MrWW on the buck

Eddie, congrats on the first mouse of the season  ;)

Well gang... call me whatever you want, but I passed on a nice 8pt yesterday. It was the one I was talking about last week that I had seen before and already decided not to shoot. He is only a 2 year old and has a nice rack but a small body still. That screams "great genetics" to me to have that much horn at 2 years. I hope he survives the season and gets to breed a little more this year before returning as a nice big buck next year. That would be a double win in my book. I had him standing broadside at 70 yards, crosshairs on his shoulder, safety off, finger on the trigger... it took every ounce of self control not to drop the hammer! I'm sure I (and some others) will second guess my decision but I am happy with it. I will more than likely harvest at least one bigger deer before the end of the season for meat and there are several better candidates that him! I will attach a few pics my uncle got of him.

Time to hit the stand one more day before my buddies head back north and I head back to work tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great day. Good luck and stay safe!

Good morning Eddie! Good morning everyone

8 degrees heading to almost 30 later today. Enjoying the Hunters moon

Congratulations on mouse 1 Eddie  Hope you find some indoor work today  When you use your Hub do you put the anchors in first or do you set it up and then put them in? I remember a few years ago watching 3 hubs blowing across a 130,000 acre lake. Not sure if they were ever recovered ???

Deere nice buck  Don't second guess yourself, keep the faith  Hope you two get to meet again next year or the year after.

IW hope the fix went well, does it feel good being home?

WW is the deer at the processor or do you do your own? Looked like a dandy buck  Now you will have help baking

More puttering with my fishing gear today and putting the final touches on my Black Friday list  ???
It won't be long and I am going to check out a couple lakes, all the cold they have to have some ice.

Good morning mr.clean! Didn't spend a dime at the ice show.

Good luck if hitting the woods! Hope everyone has an excellent Tuesday no matter what's on the agenda  Stay safe!

                Good morning ER's,
It's 30* and again we had lite snow over night. An Arctic blast is headed our way for Thanksgiving! ::)
Eddie/Steve........MW was busy Saturday plowing and he did some firewood Sunday morning, then he went out and got a nice 5 pointer. :flex:
I got my boiler repaired with out any problems, it's now comfortable in the house.
Marv.......The only bad thing about puttering with the fishing gear is that's when you realize you need more, you better head out to the bait
                shop. ???
Wally........Congrats to Mr.WW for getting a nice buck.
Sunday night while putting wood in my boiler, I tweaked my left shoulder/arm, I could feel a tear. :%$#!: I don't know how bad it is and having to do the
boiler repair yesterday didn't help. So now that things are caught up I'm giving it a rest be fore ice season get here.
I hope everyone has a good Tuesday either at work or out hunting or fishing!

Time to sit down and get caught up. It has been a busy few days since I got home Saturday night.

Deer hunting was a bust as I missed a shot on a small buck opening morning. I jammed my gun loading it in the dark. I did not realize it until I tried to shoot a small buck. He stayed around long enough for me to clear the jam and miss him when I must have rushed the shot. In the after noon I heard a shot come from another of my blinds where my son was. It did not sound like my 308 that my son was using. He had shot a spike horn with his pistol as it was to close to the ground blind to put the rifle out of the window. I asked if he wanted me to come and pick it up. He said he did not want to mess up my evening set so he went and got the deer cart. That made three 1/4 mile+ walks for him to get his deer back to the house. Gotta love a good son.

I saw a number of does but no more bucks. I should have bought a doe permit as there was a doe with no fawn that needs to be taken out. She ran a big bunch of does and fawns out of a food plot so she could have it all to her self. My last sit on Saturday night I had 7 deer in a long food plot when the eighth showed up at the far end. Thinking maybe a buck. Not! It was that lone doe again. She made it the length of the plot running most of the other deer off. I might be going back after the holiday but I will have a doe permit if I do. Our season runs the rest of the month.

Sunday the wife roasted a couple of turkeys of the many that were done for the Thanksgiving dinner at the local VFW post for the 45 or so vets that are bussed from the Grand Rapids Home for Veteran's. We had  quite a few for dinner on Sunday for one of her grandsons birthday.

Yesterday I found out that the Pharmacy I get my meds from is closing. Luckily I got a lot of my meds from them last week. I am now on the hunt for some where else to get my meds from. I know it is going to be a lot more costly as no one has been able to come close to what I have been paying.

Congratulations to MRWW and MW for getting their deer.

Eddie You guys need to take lessons on mouse trapping from my wife. She caught two on the cupboard in just a few minutes while I was deer hunting. She had bought some of the Victor traps with the big yellow pans. They were still in the traps in a box on the patio table when I got home as she could not get them out with her bad hands.

Got up early to got out, but there was a light rain and stayed in. Looks like about 1/2 inch of snow before it turned to light rain. Some of that is falling out of the trees.

Congrats to Mr.WW...nice buck.

Saw my first buck of the season yesterday. I was walking down the ATV trail, almost to where I set and he was walking up the ATV about where I set. I stopped and he stopped when he was about 30yds from me. We did about a 10 minute stare down. He finally turned and walked away from me. It was a 4pt. I went and sat down and right at the end of shooting time 2 does  walked up the ATV. My nephew has been hunting back along the state line and riding in on the ATV. I know it makes it good for me walking but I guess the deer are making the best of it also.

If some of the snow gets out of the trees early still may go up for a mid day sit. If not just take it easy today. Wife is going to do what she can today getting ready for Thanksgiving and I know she won't want me in her way.

Have a good day...h2l

It looks like the wife is following your lead. There are 4 pumpkin pies and her special diabetic coconut custard pie that she developed for me cooling. There are only 100 carbs in the whole pie. She had that confirmed. My diabetic specialist was amazed at how low in carbs it was. He is also a diabetic so he understand what it is like.

There is a low carb diabetic banana cream desert in the the fridge. You can not tell it is a diabetic desert.  Every one loves it. She is also planning on makin my mothers corn casserole which we have not had in a long time.

H2L Our first sheltie drooled so bad riding in the car we had to make a bib for her to catch it. She never got used to riding in the car with out drooling

Evening, Everybody

Had some rain this a.m., then the sun broke thru, got to the high 40's, just enough breeze to require a sweatshirt or mid weight coat, our turkey day is supposed to be at or
below freezing with a stiff breeze - come on ice

Mrs. W.W. - WTG to the Mr. on his buck, I can smell the desserts here, I'll be right over for the 'taste testing'  ;D

I.W. - Welcome back, glad you had a good trip - I had both shoulders done, I know the pain I went thru, yes, rest is a prerequiste

T.T. - That doe has a personality problem and appears to not like playing with others, target on her back

Mason - What was the earliest that a mouse was taken?

W.S. - Won't be long now, just a couple items here needed to be ready for this season

45 - who won the last 'contest' between you & the wife bowling?

H2L -For a pup, he is a good looking dog - The beagle mix we have took a little bit to get used to car/truck rides, now we can't go any where without her - My father was Chief Switchman, NJ Bell, when he retired, after service time add-ons, he had over fifty years, Tele. Pioneer, lots of good stories & memories

Been dealing with some fallout with the 'girls'(wife, #2 daughter)the past few days, it turns out Kim does have a soft spot, as bad as she fought with Melisa thru the years, as tough as Kim is, her heart is in the right place
More blood work for my primary Dr. tomorrow, seems the potassium #'s are not where they should be, borderline high, if not one thing, it's another, I feel good-what's the problem?

Be Safe-Stay Warm-Have Fun-Tight Lines or Straight Shots-Records & Limits-Good Eats-Get Well Soon

Now is the time for all good men and women to engage in the sport of ice fishing

Calm and 24* on the Hill this am, high of 34 today.

Capt.Jim...best wishes to your wife and daughter, hope they can mend any of the loose ends. Good luck with today's tests. As far as the mouse harvest, lol, we were a little behind schedule this year. The last two seasons we started trapping in October.
Tom...welcome back and congrats to your son on his buck!   Sorry the trip didn't produce for you, heading back there soon for another try?
OG...best of luck, hope the bite is on!   :icefish:
Wally...Santa should be very good to you this Christmas...keep adding to the list!   ;D
I-45...hope you and your wife are both feeling better, won't be too long until the ice is safe!
H2...what a handsome boy Rocky is, great picture. Nothing like a staring contest, lol. Hope you saw the one you want yesterday, best of luck if hunting today!
Jeff...glad the repair went well, ouch on the shoulder....take er easy today, hope it's not major.
Marv...if its windy, I put a few anchors in first to set up, and re-adjust if necessary.
DFF...beautiful pictures and nice buck!  Hope he makes it through the season, great choice on letting him walk.     Probably a good thing he won't be walking down one of my trails though.... ;D

Running behind this am, will check back at break.   We did catch 2 more of the little buggers yesterday.... :roflmao:
Cawfee's on...please be safe traveling to all those on the road today!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing/hunting!

                  Good morning Eddie, ER's,
It's 24* and clear here on my hill, the cold front is getting closer. ::)
Eddie..........Good luck with the mouse trapping. The guy I hunt with in Maine trapped 18 mice in the time we were there. :flex: His goal
was 20 but could not reach it.
TT.............Congrat ulations to your son on the Buck, will you keep trying? ???
Capt.Jim....I don;t if you should get involved, some times that backfires. But someone should explain the life is too short to hold on to bad
feelings, before they know one could be gone and then there are regrets left.
H2L...........I hope you can connect.
DFF............Letting that Buck go can only hope what he will be next year.
Not much going on around here, I hope my wife will let me rest my arm, she always wants me to do something. ???
I hope everyone has a good Wednesday, Hump Day either at work or at plat.

Good morning Eddie! Good morning everyone

28 degrees which is the high for the day. Some snow moving in just in time for rush hour.

Just got home from Walmart. The wife does the shopping for her office for waters, soda and paper products. 2 carts and $195 later I am home  She said it's a lot more fun when I go with to help ??? Luckily she only does it once a month.

IW hope your wing is feeling better this morning. Hope you took things easy yesterday.

WW are you heading to the kids for Thanksgiving or staying home? Safe travels all the way around

Eddie hope you and the crew have a good day on the shortened week  I am going to check a couple of lakes out, I am thinking the Hub will get a try this year.

h2l good looking pup

TT I have used the victor traps with the yellow pans for a few years. I actually ordered 25 from Amazon a couple of years ago. They are by far the best mouse trap out there. The only problem I find is the durability could be better. I usually rebuild them when the nails pull out after 4-5 mice.

Capt.Jim good luck with the tests  Hope the hurt mends for your wife and daughter, memories can really sting at times. Keeping your family in our thoughts through the entire Holiday season.

I have a few stops today but I have to hang tight as I am getting a new phone delivered. I looked at the tracking info and they say it will be delivered between 8am and 8pm, I have to be here to sign for it :%$#!:

Safe travels to anyone hitting the roads

Hope everyone has a good day, at work, in the bush, or baking pies  Stay safe!

Starting over lost another post. The lake is sealed up and what snow was on there has melted.

I am planning on going back after that o doe this weekend. I bought my doe permit  yesterday. My buck tag as a senior cost $7.00,the doe tag cost $20.00

Capt Jim I understand you telling the woman to Take the Job and Shove It. I had a list of people to not work for again.

One time I had a blind full of mice. I remembered I had a couple of sticky traps in the work truck. I put a small piece of candy on them. The next morning you could not see the traps for dead mice I never did try and count them.

WS That is the problem I find with Victor traps. Those little staples that hold them together do not stay in place very well. I was unable to find  Victor traps at the local hardware store. I bought a couple of Tom Cat traps. They would not even go off.

I priced out my meds at a big chain pharmacy yesterday. The costs compared to what I was paying is cost prohibitive on most of them. My generic Norco that was 14.00 is now $102. That is for generics, name brands is enough to give you a heart attack. I guess I will have to live with the pain and also look at getting off of some others.  It is not price gouging it is rape like I told the pharmacist.

IW....hope the shoulder is feeling better today.

TT....good luck with the doe. Those prices are insane!!! Hope you can find a way to get the meds you need without breaking the bank.

Good afternoon all. I want to wish you all a very happy holiday for tomorrow. For those that are fortunate to have hard water to fish on good luck if you venture out.

Another ice check yesterday and it is still a no go for me. Temps to dip to single digits tonight so that will help.

As a side note; we still have a land line phone and have (up till now) suffered the onslaught of robo calls, telemarketers and the scammers that use existing numbers to waste your time. Recently we purchased a device that has given us a lot of peace, and it is called the V10,000 CPR (Call Prevention Registry) It plugs into your incoming line and then to the phone and it already has 10000 numbers used that it automatically blocks and 2000 spaces you can block on your own. For the first time in a very long time the phone is quiet and we love it.

So with a quiet phone, and a big turkey dinner tomorrow I should be able to catch a great afternoon nap. ;)

Good Morning Everyone,
Wishing all the 9:45'ers and Shanty members a Very Happy Thanksgiving Day!!
It's a balmy 7* here this am, winds out of the WNW 15-20mph, with a high of 15 today. Not one to pass on traditional things if I can help it, but just can't seem to muster up the desire of sitting in the woods this morning deer hunting. I'll leave that one up to my sons if they want to carry the torch this morning.... ;D

Hoserman...Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family also, and thanks for sharing the info. on the phone device, glad its bringing those annoying calls to a halt for you...awesome!
Wally...I bet your home smelled like a fine bakery yesterday with those pies baking again....  Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
Tom...best of luck on filling out those tags this weekend!      Those prices quoted on your meds are just horrible, hoping you can find a more affordable source....perhaps someone reading this thread could help...best wishes.
Marv...hope your new phone arrived with enough time left to complete your errands yesterday, nothing like a 12hr. time frame to deal with, cripes!  Wanted to mention to you, I use a bungee strap wrapped around the center of the hub when folded up, makes putting it in/out of the bag very simple. Arguably, the Eskimo ice anchors are the best I have used and can be easily hand screwed. The ice anchor adapter they make for $15 makes it quick and super easy as well, or just a small pilot hole with a bit, just requires bringing a small cordless drill.
Jeff...holy smokes, your buddy could have had a pair of gloves made with that many mice trapped, dang!!  :roflmao::clap:
Hope your shoulder is feeling a little better today Sir! Some good ice making weather less the wind and recent snow...shouldn't be too long!

We were given the option of working or taking the day off tomorrow, believe I'll be taking it off unless I receive some type of 911 text....had enough fun outside this week even if it was only 3 days long.   ;D
Made my  stuffing last night for the turkey, and will get the bird in the oven shortly. Most all of the kids will be here today, dinner at 2:30.
Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving, please be safe on the roads today.....cawfee's on!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing/hunting!

1 degree and breezy.
Eddie, I am with you staying in where it is warm.
Trip to the city went pretty well. Ran into one band of snow south of Newburg on the way home. It was a 14 hour trip down and back.
However, the wife had breathing problems during the night and took her to local hospital at 3am. They are checking her out and I am sure that once they call NYC, they will want her down there. Also sure they will transport her. We will see what happens. I am going to run her morning meds down to her now.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone....h2l

Good morning everyone

27 heading to 36 a little later.

The phone showed up at high noon, I still had plenty of time for a couple of errands  The phone could be called an upgrade I suppose. It's still definitely on the low end price wise but it has way more memory. My old phone kept saying I was out of storage every time I added anything. The new phone has about 5 times the space so I should be good for awhile.

The s-i-l was in need of a phone also. She had reviewed phones for a good year before settling on a Samsung. I waited until hers came and she had it for a couple weeks. Then I ordered mine and she had everything transferred from my old phone to the new one in a couple of hours. I didn't have to do a thing ;D I would have liked a better camera because of all the time I spend outdoors but wasn't willing to pay for that. I hope this one will be good enough to at least back up my stories ;D

Eddie, Thanks for the tips, much appreciate it  I am planning on hitting a couple of remote lakes this year so it's time I gave the Hub a try. Enjoy your day with the family Sir! I bet your stuffing is a hit

IW you sound like you have a fun day planned. Hope you shoulder is feeling better

WW enjoy your day with Mr. WW's family  Wonder if there will be any pie left ??? Have you started getting your ice fishing gear ready?

h2l Thoughts and prayers for your wife. Hope everything turns out well

TT good luck getting the doe

Thanksgiving at our house will be the three of us. After watching the news last night and seeing all the travelers at the airports and highways, I almost feel guilty staying home ;D Brined turkey on the grill, mashed potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, and pumpkin pie for dessert.

Wishing everyone an excellent Thanksgiving with good friends and family  And take time to remember those that used to sit at the table from times gone by.

A happy Thanksgiving to all!

A balmy 18* this morning. I am glad we do not have the temps you have out east. Headed to around 40 this week end. WS Thanks for sharing the warm up. I am going to have to get some wood from my son to heat the other place this week end.

H2L Prayers for your wife. Hopefully she does not have to go back to NYC

Hopefully my son can get the track phone I bought recently figured out today. The one I had that died was simple to get around in but this one does not get where I want with out a hassle. I can not get my contacts loaded on the new one. I do not use a cell phone that much so I do not need a fancy one that is smarter than what I am.

ww The wifes hands became red and sore last night. I think it was from hand mixing all of the stuffing by hand. As usuall she made way to much. I put two bags of premixed stuffing in the freezer and there is still quite a bit of dry bread. We got all of the baked goods etc taken to the hall yesterday. We have the hall all set up for at least 40 people. Thanksgiving has gotten out of hand to a point as her sisters family is coming too, that way she does not have to do it at her place as she is leaving for Florida on Friday. Every one else can help with the clean up. As I figured the hot water heater is not working. When we quit takeing care of the hall we told them that it needed replaced. The bottom of a lot of the tables have some black mold on them. The park it is in a mess, making it a liabiltiy to the Assn.

I have found a place online that I think I can get a better price on most of my meds. I will pass it on when I get it figured out. At least one of my meds I will quit taking as I do not think I need to take it any more.

A woman trapper friend ran a bunch of skinned and dried mouse hides through the Fur Auction one time. I can not remeber what they sold for. He husband also trapped only having one arm. To watch him set  a foot hold trap one handed was scarry but he got it done.

Happy Thanksgiving fellow 9:45ers sunny and cold here in New Windsor this morning. While we enjoy our day with family and friends lets us remember those less fortunate who struggle to find a meal each day and warm place to spend time out of the weather.
Icefisher -45 hope the wife and you are feeling better. IF you found a place to spend time helping others today thank you for your service.
Old Goat enjoy the early ice remember  your safety equipment.
FishinJohn have a good day with family and friends .  Try and find sometime for yourself between all the deer processing and your main job.
Deerefishyfishy may that buck make it until next year . You also have a good day with your family  and friends.
Wallyworld may all your pies make the trip to Mr.WW's relatives undamaged. Have a great day with his relatives.
Tom Turkey looks like you will have your combined families together for the day enjoy the meal and fellowship. Some price difference with your meds. talk with your doctors and insurance company they may know of programs /sources of lower priced drugs. Also some drug companies have programs to help people afford the medications they need to take on a regular basis.
Eddie feels like ice fishing weather today best to your sons if they hunt this morning. Hope they dress properly for the weather. Enjoy the 4 day weekend and time with family today.
Ice Wanderer may your arm/shoulder be healed by the time Lake George is ready for ice fishing. Have a great day with sons #2-3 and their families.
Whopper Stopper guess someone has to push one of the heavily loaded shopping carts. All the best with your new phone.
Hunts2long Rocky is one handsome boy may he get used to car travel. Sorry to hear your wife is having problems if she is sent to NYC and you make the trip Souyh today remember the Denny's restaurant chain is open for business.
Capt.Jim may your wife and Kim resolve their differences. Today will be tough try to enjoy it the best you can given Melisa's recent passing.
Morning Mr.Turkey glad you may have found an affordable provider for your meds. Think you need to have other family members help with Thanksgiving meal by providing some of th dishes to be served.

To anyone I may have forgotten safe travels and may you have a great day with friends and family.
Steve

Again, Happy Thanksgiving to ya'll. Colder than a mother-in-laws kiss this morning, a balmy -4*. Bet it made some ice over night for sure.

The turkey is now residing in the big easy oiless fryer, and in about two hours it should be time for some awesomeness.

Friend called last night and there is a lake twenty miles north of us that is frozen all the way. May be making a trip this weekend.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day, and have to loosen our belts after the holiday meal.
Tried ice fishing with Dynamite, UGH... where's my shanty?

Happy Thanksgiving

Good Morning, Everybody

Sunshine with a stiff, cold breeze, won't get above freezing today, BRRR, maybe tomorrow

Clean - The girls aren't fighting, somebody or something will trip a memory of Melisa, and a tear, quivering lip, or short crying jag will occur, I play the 'hard guy/comforter',
yes this will be a 'sad' year for us all, but thoughts & prayers always help, thank you to all here for them

Mrs. W.W., Mrs. T.T. - If someone forgets, let me thank you for the hard work going into all the food made for today

H2L - Best wishes to the wife for a speedy recovery

I.W. - Take care of that shoulder, ice fishing is WAY more important than being stuck home with the arm in a sling watching afternoon soap operas  ;D

45 - A good thing with the Vets. Shelter, Thank You

Hsrmn - Enjoy the bird, let me know how it was, safety first on the ice if you get out, good luck

Bonnett - Have a good day, Sir

I.F.F. - Enjoy yours also

W.S. - Any ice your way yet? - Happy Turkey Day

I got informed Tuesday that #2 Daughter(Kimberly) was going to do a small bird at her place, 6 people, this past Sunday when the big affair was had, it was 25 people & almost
didn't happen, Kim's sister-in-law was in charge of that one, not well organized, no fighting but not impressive for a ex-waitress/chef's assistant

Be Safe-Stay Warm-Have Fun-GOOD EATS-Tight Lines or Straight Shots-Records & Limits-Get Well Soon
Now is the time for all good men and women to engage in the sport of ice fishing
