Is tomorrow a Go?
« on: Feb 09, 2013, 03:26 PM »
Was wondering what everyones opinion was. First will the access roads leading to lets say winchester or bantam be passable with 4 wheel drive? Do you think any parking lots will be plowed, or will we have to take things into our own hands and shovel our way in? Will there be the same amount of snow on land as on the ice? Or did the wind do us a favor and skim some of it off? Or am i way to far ahead of myself and there's no way in hell we're fishing tomorrow? ??? ....snow sucks

Every spot you mention in your post has zero parking as of right now.  Only place I could get parking was Hogsback (the gate was open).  However the wind is coming north to south so there were some 5' drifts at the lot at hogsback you'd have to make your way through.

I understand your post completely.

I think the biggest concern is going to be: where can you (safely) park/leave your vehicle? :o

I am going to try to get out somewhere tomorrow....bring your snowshoes!

Just got back in from West Twin.  There are maybe 1.5 ft drifts at most on it.  8+ inches everywhere i drilled.  The road is very plowed but you would need to shovel a spot on the shoulder to park.  The snowshoes def helped.  Its nice not to have your feet deep in the snow all day.  Also, I drilled between the drifts, and there is only 5 or so inches of snow there.  I only jigged for crappie and perch, but the bite was very hot.  One after another in some holes and marking plenty of active fish, fishing about 15 feet.  Hopefully tomorrow is better weather for ya, the wind was absolutely brutal and the blowing snow was harsh too.

Winchester looks like the the surface of the moon, I bet there are 4' drifts out there. I wouldn't count on seeing the lot cleared by tomorrow. If you do make it out do me a favor and drill a hole every 50yrds along your path  ;)

Your a brave soul if you get out tomorrow. I wish you luck in your quest. I know what I'm going to do. Finish digging out and maybe go to work if they call.

As much as I want to fish, I'm not. Digging out my place and my mother's house was enough fun. Probably be at my grandfather's tomorrow making sure he's shoveled out. Suppose I could put my Nils, jigging rods, and Vex in the car and try jigging Congo South when I'm done...  :P

Mind is willing but body is freakin weak...We had a big day planned for tomorrow but being a bunch of 50somethings we decided on eggs over easy with a side of bacon in our livingroom. Too much shoveling needed for our old creeky backs to handle...But if young and full of piss and vinegar the NW Corner should have the ice you need you just have to put the work in to park and set up....Good luck to those that brave this and be safe!

I'm meeting with another IS member now and taking a three hour ride north for toothies, of the pike and tiger musky varity.  5-8" of snow where we are going is like a dusting compared to CT.

I thought about it, but there is more snow then a truck can handle. I'm in Bristol they were trying to open one lane on all the streets yesterday.  They sent a 10 wheeler into my neighbor hood, he made the 1 pass up my street. Tried to make the corner, got hung up and spent 4 hours trying to dig himself out. The public works director sent an email to the Councilors telling them it may take 2WEEKS til the streets are opened all the way.

That's good to know. I kinda figured the wind would strip alot of snow off the ice.
