Ill agree the black plastic traps suck compared to the galvanized ones.  But last year i took one of the glo sticks that kids use when trick or treating and that seamed to attacked more fish to the trap.  Try different things.  You never know.

thanks for the welcome and no i dont play hockey :( i have heard similar things about the black traps. i think i just found a good pond tho cause i just pulled in over 100 minnows out of two of my black ones in a farm pond down the street.
i was gonna try spray painting the black ones gloss silver if they didnt catch anything.

my first day with the black ones turned out pretty good. turned out that what i thought was 100 minnows was 286 out  of just two traps. also caught 60 tapoles and a huge beetle.

When you catch the bait how do you store them and what do you have to do to keep them alive until we get ice? I was thinking about putting a trap out somewhere to try my luck. Thx

goneicefishin has a huge horizontal freezer in his garage that we've been throwing ours in. he's got a few aquarium aerators in it. weve got about 830 fish in there as of last night.
depending on how many your hoping to catch you could use a regular cooler too.

nice shinners. be sure to change the water when it gets murky and the colder it is the longer they will last.you can try feeding them with goldfish food but isn,t necessary.don,t put to many in at once because you will loose them anyways.i tryed the tank thing but lost too many toward the later part of the season. now i have a box in a small brook thats running all winter. they keep real good and all i have to do is bust a little ice once in awhilec to get at them.
