jig sizes
« on: Dec 11, 2005, 10:09 PM »
This is my 1st year fishing for 'eyes through the ice and was wondering about jig sizes. Do you guys fish larger jigs for 'eyes versus perch? I ideally want to catch walleyes, but I won't be at all disappointed if I come up with a mess of perch.  If I'm using the same size jig or spoon, then I guess I would spool all my reels with a heavier line.  What does everyone think?

go with what ever size you want from 2#-8#, 4#-6# are ideal and you'll still get perch, same size or next size up, you'll still get perch - largers ones maybe.
Good luck in your wally hunt.  ;D

You can use a 1/4 oz. Kastmaster or #5 or #7 jigging Rap and catch both eyes and perch.

Thanks for your help.  I'm going to order some middle of the road size spoons and raps. If I'm targeting both species with these lures, would you suggest I fish with a heavier line(6#) instead of a lighter line for just perch?
