Title: 18 Feb Pineview Night Trip
Post by: k2muskie on Feb 19, 2012, 08:50 AM
On the ice roughly 3PM.  Went out with a fellow angler to a new area another angler angler indicated he'd done well at for Crappie.  He and his girlfriend showed up at about 6PM.  Again took the sled no issues on or off via the Port Ramp except for bare asphalt.  Tried using the ski protectors that slide over the skis but they came off. Oh well on that.

Ventured to this new location we had never fished before.  Alls I can say is lesson learned and the old saying don't leave areas one has fished and caught fish to a new area you never fished before.

Fished for a little bit before we set the tents up...glad we got the tents up because the wind came shortly there after.  As it got dark nothing was showing on our vexs except the red glow of the bottom.  Every now and again a fish would wonder through and managed a few hits but that was it.  Hits.  We fished with all types of lures both horizontal and vertical.

One thing about this trip is we got to try out the new submersible lights.  I for sure have to invest in some type of bigger or more powerful battery as my little 12V 9amp battery only lasted 2 hours.  However our Tiger Musky fishing buddy brought his 40# 12V trolling battery and boy did the light I let him use light up that whole area with fish showing on the vex.  I worked that area but to no avail nothing was interested.  I can see why as I looked down the hole with the light WOW :o it attracted all this very small water bugs...so that may be the reason for such a different bite this year competing with all the forge be it fry or a plethora of water insects.

Going to have to find another battery as we 'taint' about to haul a 40# battery out with us...any recommendations on a battery that would work?  I'm going to do a bit of researching on a battery.

Decided to call it at roughly 9PM no fish coming home to be cleaned this trip.  Think'n we called it at the right time also as the snow started coming and wind picked up again.

It was a nice time with friends but Lesson learned if we have another night trip this season fish the areas you've caught fish.

You know this is the only reason ive been sticking to the narrows "this year" which i usually avoid. My spots from last year were only holding tight lipped perch and ive been stuck on the crappies.

Maybe a motorcycle/wheeler/snowmobile size one will work and definately not as heavy. Im curious how much these lites will increase your catch rates  ??? Ive always done good with some glow and sometimes no glow just as long as your marking them under you. Location, Location, Location
