The wierdest thing you've used for bait
« on: Jan 23, 2008, 11:39 AM »
Just read a topic about a guy that had no bait and people were mentioning to use a hot dog...What is the wierdest thing you have used and did you catch anything on it?  Never tried it through the ice but in the summer ive caught gills on gum. ;D

Good Luck and Tight Lines,

Just to prove a point to my father a few years back I grabbed a lit cigarette out of a friends mouth and put it on a jig.  Sprayed it with bait mate and got to work.  Not more than 5 minutes later I had a nice 2-3 pound walleye on the other end of my rod.  Screw the walleye, lets go after the northern!

Unless it's for dinner!

I tipped a jig with a clove of garlic and caught a walleye. Then I tore the label from the inside of my hat, tipped my jig with it, and caught a walleye.
I was fishing in northern Quebec and probably could have caught them on a bare hook.

i would have to go with tying my ex-girlfriends silver earings to a small hook.had no bait or lures just a rod set up for bullhead with a hook and sinker.took off the sinker and made a knot in the earing with my line with the hook in the middle of it and got a couple rockbass from under a dock.i think that beats getting carp with salt potatos.

I ran out of spikes one day jigging for perch. Took the skin off of some KFC that was packed for lunch. Caught a bunch on it, it stayed on the hook pretty well and the grease seemed to keep the hole from freezing over as quick.

Once up to Adirondack Lake a few years back we were killing the pike, one guy didn't have a flag,he had to go and get more beer so we went to his closest tip-up and we were going to put a full can of Bud on his hook, the reel was stripped, infact all his reels were stripped,he set the flags on the wrong side of the spring,he had 5 fish, when he came back he pulled in a can of Bud--guess fish don't like bud.we told him of his mistake,he said first time I ever used a tip-up--

Tried some anchovies last week, nothing hit on it.  I'm sure it's an EPA violation with the sodium content and all ;D
