Yeah, the long range looks very warm for the southern tier...really sucks got some good ice starting to form... just in time for it to rain and I don't think it will hold up.

Yeah, it's not looking good around here for a while.  High 40's today and 40 mph winds out the south.  Seeing skim ice in extreme shallows on the lake but it's likely out of here today.

This is the monthly outlook from weather.com.  You can use the menu at the top to see the projected weather for the next couple months.
http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgarden/home/monthly/14466?from=36hr_topnav_home

From the looks of this we will not have ice until at least January 1.  I hope it is wrong.

Might be some hope on the horizon though I don't think there will be safe ice before January either.

Good fishing to be had but it looks like it will be open water for me this weekend.

According to my journal, I was on the ice fishing in the Capital District area last year on 12/15.

What we had in the past is the past it will get cold around Christmas. Go when you can the Daks will be the answer. This  winter will be a roller coaster don't get frustrated head north. Global Warming is for real and so is El Nino. Catch Many Tight Lines.

It's getting depressing.  Every day I check the weather they move the warm weather up a day or two.
Christmas Day forward was supposed to be cold and now it is more like the 27th forward  :%$#!:

3 weeks from now I predict we will have 2’ of snow about 2 inches of good ice on most lakes in western ny. I lived here all my life and I know Mother Nature won’t cheat us out of cold weather. It’s coming and I’m not worried about it. Right now I’m enjoying this nice weather and if it stays warm all winter I wont complain.

Have faith my ice fishing brothers.  I would rather have it warm in December and cold in January as opposed to last year.  If it gets cold, we could make a lot of ice in January.  I like late season fishing better anyway, I tend to catch a lot more fish in late February/early March.  Two years ago we were standing on 15" of ice in Hague on March 29th.  I hope it plays out this way again.

If we could get some snow on the ground before the ice starts that would be the best case we could hope for. With snow on the ground it increases the reflectivity of the ground and allows for colder nights and even helps keep the day time temps down some.

The forecast is starting to look better for the Indian Lake/Blue Mountain Lake area.  Hope it holds true, maybe mid January we could start seeing good ice.
